Please follow our page and be a Friend of the Heilbron Manson on 7th & O Streets. This program began in 2012 at the Governor's Mansion State Historic Park.

Spring of 2016 I reached out to California State Parks, who currently uses this mansion as a Facilities Services office. The garden was looking sad and the building had been recently damaged in a storm. I was directed to Bonnie Hansen, who runs the Mansion Gardener Volunteer Program. The program expanded to the Leland Stanford Mansion, together Bonnie and I have helped expand the program to a thir

We are happy to announce that we had a very positive meeting with Dr. Leslie Hartzell the Chief of Cultural Resources for California State Parks, on May 16, 2019. The Heilbron Mansion is under her authority and care. We are hopefull that the adjacent office building construction is proceeding with respect for the neighboring Heilbron Mansion.

We have been told that we will now be receiving updates, and when we do they will be shared to this page.

Sacramento history lovers stay tuned...

Thanks to our Friends of the Heilbron page these beautifully framed, Victorian era Heilbron family photos are making their way to the mansion. Thank you Samantha for sharing them with us. We are in the process of directing them into the archives at California State Parks for proper conservation, storage and, hopefully, eventual display in the mansion. Stay tuned for more details from Kathleen Green and Bonnie Hansen as they work to make this happen.

Here is a photographic update from Kathleen Green: There is now double cyclone fencing around the building area and O Street has been closed to cars. I doubt the heritage orange tree survived. Seeds were taken to try to propagate it. We hope the camellias are OK as work progress continues on the new office tower next door to the mansion.

The orange tree is not looking good but I think next spring we willl know if it has survived the transplant. They (DGS) are also saving some seeds to reproduce this special tree if it doesn't survive. The photo of the circle of drip hose is around the magnolia in the back. Yeah.. the palate covering the water pipe connected to city water. I can only keep my fingers crossed. - Kathleen

Update - Saddly, it looks like the recently relocated Heilbron orange tree IS NOT GETTING WATER, as leaves and last winter's oranges are falling off. Some transplant fertilizer may have helped, 😑😑😣 it was also a tricky time of year to attempt such an ambitious transplant.

Here is the conceptual drawing for the new office tower next to the Heilbron mansion. The mansion is on the lower left corner of the lot.

Just came over to see what has happened in the last month in the garden of the Heilbron, AND THEY MOVED THE ORANGE TREE!!! All our flower beds and the hedges are gone. Would have liked to see the orange tree being moved. It looks fine but don't know how long it's been. - Kathleen

Construction has begun next to the Heilbron Mansion. They are focused on how the building will be protected during construction, and how the side yard will be used as a courtyard for the new bldg. Lots of dust .

The Heilbron Mansion patiently waits behind a chainlink fence for it's new reality . Meanwhile, an Anonymous admirer has left a token of respect and affection for this venerable Sacramento landmark.
