Today, a bipartisan congressional letter to the Department of Defense (DoD) revealed that commercial cell phone location data was used in Operation Epic Fury to target U.S. military personnel. The letter urges DoD to partner with CalPrivacy and use California’s innovative privacy tools, like DROP, to better protect service members.

The California State Senate has officially passed the Expanding Privacy Rights Act (SB 923), authored by Sen. Josh Becker and sponsored by CalPrivacy. This is an important step towards strengthening Californians’ control over their personal data.
SB 923 would expand Californians’ right to delete to cover personal information held by businesses about a consumer and require more accessible ways to submit privacy requests.
With Senate passage secured, SB 923 now moves to the Assembly, a key next step towards modernizing and strengthening California privacy law.
