Today is National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIWR).

According to the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center, native women are disproportionately targeted by crimes involving abduction and murder, with murder rates up to 10x the national average. Their disappearances are tied to crimes ranging from domestic violence, stalking, to sexual assault, trafficking, and more.

What is the significance of MMIWR?

-Honoring the lives of our missing and murdered relatives.
- Shedding light on the countless tragedies impacting Native women and communities.
- Highlighting the need for ongoing grassroots advocacy and organizing for change of laws, policies, protocols, and allocation of increased resources at the Tribal, federal, and state levels to end these injustices.
-Sharing information needed to understand and drive legal reforms and change.

Together we can take action, accountability, and help create visibility.

You can take actionable steps to help protect indigenous women by sharing information, resources and the free downloadable poster for MMIWR day at www.niwrc.org/mmiwr-awareness

Earth Day is a powerful reminder that the fight for our planet is deeply connected to the fight for gender equity. Around the world, women are often on the frontlines of climate change, while also leading some of the most impactful environmental movements.

Activists like Wangari Maathai, founder of the Green Belt Movement, Greta Thunberg, who has mobilized millions of young people, and Autumn Peltier, a fierce advocate for clean water, remind us of the power of women’s leadership in protecting our planet.

Environmental justice is women’s justice. This Earth Day, we honor the women leading the way and commit to building a more sustainable, equitable future for all.

Today is AANHPI Women’s Equal Pay Day, a reminder that Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander women still earn less than white men. Many must work months longer to catch up, and the gap is even wider for some communities within the AANHPI umbrella.

This is a call to action. We must push for pay transparency, challenge workplace bias, and support policies that advance equity for all.

Equal pay is overdue ⚖️
