Thank you for your leadership on SCR 154. Our service members and their families sacrifice so much for our country. It's important that we recognize their commitment and continue to support them.

CALIFORNIA SAID YES.

With the passage of SCR 154 on May 29, 2026, California officially recognized the Green Star Service Banner.

Thank you to Senators Tom Umberg, Tony Strickland, Steven Choi, and Bob Archuleta, along with the California Legislature, for helping bring visibility and recognition to families impacted by Veteran su***de.

This recognition honors the memory of Veterans lost to su***de and acknowledges the families who carry their legacy forward every day.

Recognition matters.

No family should feel invisible.

Conferring with my colleagues on a critical vote regarding the reappointment of commissioners to the California Board of Parole Hearings. These commissioners approved parole for violent offenders, including convicted child predator David Allen Funston, convicted child s*x offender Gregory Lee Vogelsang, and convicted ra**st Roberto Detrinidad.

Senate Democrats voted to reappoint these commissioners despite serious concerns about public safety and victim protection.

I stand with parents, law-abiding citizens, and the safety of our communities. For that reason, I voted NO on the five confirmations.

The California High-Speed Rail Authority is meeting today at 9:30 a.m. with its Board of Directors to approve the risky, disastrous, and unrealistic 2026 Business Plan. This plan was presented to the Senate Transportation Committee in April.

As Vice Chair of the Senate Transportation Committee, I have been urging my colleagues to pull the plug on this high-speed fail. Recently, I offered Senate Democrats an opportunity to defund the project, but they rejected my sensible proposal.

The meeting is open to the public, both in person and via Zoom. There’s still time to make a public comment: https://hsr.ca.gov/about/board-of-directors/schedule/

It’s been more than week since the Garden Grove hazmat incident took place. Recently, my staff attended the Garden Grove City Council meeting on my behalf to thank our first responders, city and county staff, community organizations, and everyone who came together during this difficult time. Moments like these remind us how strong our community is when we work together, and I am proud to serve as the State Senator for Senate District 36.

My office will continue monitoring the situation closely and supporting efforts to ensure accountability, transparency, and public safety moving forward.

Congrats to the Class of 2026! I’m proud to join school, city, and community leaders from across Los Alamitos, Rossmoor, and Seal Beach at the 2026 Rossmoor Graduation Parade honoring the Los Alamitos High School Class of 2026!

This festive parade is such a special reminder that it truly takes a community to empower the next generation of doctors, engineers, teachers, and more. We’re so proud of you and can’t wait to see all the amazing things that come next!

Community Recognition Day in May: Senate District 36 is home to so many outstanding nonprofits and incredible people. Thank you to all those who joined me at the Community Recognition Day this month. Congratulations to the 16 organizations and 40 individuals who were recognized, including USMC Gunnery Sgt. Marcus Lewis, for his outstanding service, exemplary leadership, and unwavering dedication to the United States of America. I wish him the best in his retirement after 20 years of honorable service. Affordability isn’t just a word I use. It’s something I’m actively working to address. Just recently, I offered a sensible solution to my colleagues: suspend the gas tax. Senate Democrats rejected it outright. But this won’t be the last time I bring forward ideas to help lower costs.

I’ll continue advocating for families, students, and seniors who are being crushed by California’s affordability crisis.

I joined my Democratic colleagues in supporting Senate Concurrent Resolution 170, recognizing May 25–29 as Firefighter Mental Health Awareness Month.

Firefighters do more than put out fires. They are often the first on the scene when someone calls 911, responding to emergencies at a moment’s notice.

Their work is physically demanding and emotionally challenging. In addition to staying physically fit, firefighters must also maintain strong mental health as they face traumatic and high-stress situations every day.

SCR 170 supports firefighters’ mental health and sends a clear message that California cares about the well-being of those who protect our communities.

The Garden Grove chemical incident has been downgraded, and some evacuation orders have been lifted. I am still closely monitoring the situation and staying in contact with public safety and first responders. I was on CNN News Central to discuss the situation. My staff & I were honored to attend the various Memorial Day ceremonies taking place in Senate District 36. Today was a powerful reminder of the service, sacrifice, and legacy of America’s greatest generation. I had the honor to meet 103-year-old WWII veteran Leon Anstead, a local hero.
