It’s important to mentor the next generation of leaders, and I’m a strong advocate for recognizing and celebrating outstanding students who dedicate their time and energy to leadership, citizenship, and public service. I enjoyed celebrating with these exceptional students who participated in the Boys & Girls State through American Legion Huntington Beach Post 133. Congratulations to all!

The Governor agrees with me: California’s high-speed rail project needs more accountability and transparency after the Inspector general disclosed more than $600,000 of alleged misuse of public funds.

Enough is enough. Let’s defund this project, Governor, and give California drivers a break at the pump. Californians pay the highest gas taxes in the nation to fund the high-speed fail.

A huge congratulations to Tam Nguyen Tam Nguyen, co-owner of Advance Beauty College, for receiving the Volunteer of the Year Award from the Fountain Valley Rotary Club at the Ed Arnold Gala. Team Strickland joined the prestigious event to recognize Tam for his amazing accomplishments and achievements.

As the son of Vietnamese refugee parents and a second-generation family business owner, Tam represents the incredible story of so many families in Senate District 36 and across Orange County. The Vietnamese American community has helped build and shape Little Saigon, while making lasting contributions to our region.

For decades, Advance Beauty College has helped generations of students turn their creativity and passion into careers, giving them the skills to open their own businesses, build financial independence, and become their own bosses.

Congratulations, Tam, and thank you for all you do for our community!

The OCFA is hosting open houses this Saturday, October 3, at fire stations across Senate District 36.

This is a great opportunity for families and businesses to meet the men and women who keep our communities safe, learn more about the challenges they face, and understand why California no longer has a traditional “fire season.” With hotter, drier conditions and the threat of wildfires extending throughout the year, our firefighters are working around the clock to protect our communities.

From Buena Park to San Clemente, nine OCFA fire stations in Senate District 36 will be welcoming the public. Stop by, meet your local firefighters, and learn more about the important work they do every day.

Today’s gas prices: CA is $6.39 vs. the national average is $4.43

❌Highest gas tax in the nation
❌ #2 highest residential electricity rates in the nation

The Legislature had a chance to suspend CA’s gas tax for one year, lowering the price of a gallon of gas by $1.08 and saving an average family about $1,100 a year. It didn’t happen. Common sense was thrown out the door.

Always great to be with friends at the Seal Beach City Rotary to share an update on the work I’ve been doing in Sacramento. Having served at the local level, I know firsthand that decisions made in Sacramento have a real impact on our communities.

The challenges facing our coastal communities don’t stop at city limits. From the affordability concerns to protecting our coastline and supporting local businesses, the issues facing one community often affect us all. At a beautiful outdoor venue in Orange County, I had the opportunity to connect with friends, businesses, local and state legislators to learn more about some of the amazing projects coming to our communities. The annual event is hosted by the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA), a large trade association of commercial real estate professionals. These investments can create construction jobs, attract new businesses, and bring additional employment opportunities to our region.
