Troy knows firsthand how powerful education can be.

After spending time in prison, he made the decision to change the course of his life. Through Highlands, he earned his diploma and opened the door to new opportunities.

Today, Troy is passionate about helping others do the same, especially those who are currently incarcerated and looking for a second chance through education.

His story is proof that it's never too late to start over.

Behind the scenes in biology class with Anna 🧪

Students are learning about the various body systems through hands-on activities designed to make science engaging, interactive, and fun. These kinds of experiences help students build confidence while connecting classroom learning to real-world applications.

Another great example of Highlands students learning by doing.

Thank you.

To every student, teacher, counselor, staff member, family, alumnus, and community partner who showed up, spoke out, shared your story, and stood with Highlands — thank you.

Last night, the Sacramento County Office of Education voted to uphold Highlands’ appeal and overturn the revocation of the school’s charter.

This moment belongs to our community.

Thank you to the SCOE Board for taking the time to listen to our students, review the progress made under new leadership, and recognize the importance of keeping Highlands open for the thousands of students who depend on it.

Highlands matters because our students matter.

While this is an important milestone, we know the work continues. We remain committed to strengthening accountability, rebuilding trust, and continuing to improve outcomes for every student we serve.

Last night showed the power of community — and what’s possible when people come together to fight for students and second chances.
