Happy from the Lutheran Office of Public Policy - CA!

We give thanks to God for all the living things God has given us on this earth, especially for the numerous natural resources and recreation sites here in the state of California. As a Lutheran organization, we call upon the help of God to guide us as we respond to the call to care for creation.

The words of the ELCA’s 1993 social statement, “Caring for Creation: Vision, Hope, and Justice” guide our advocacy for all creatures great and small.

“Caring, serving, keeping, loving, and living by wisdom—these translate into justice in political, economic, social, and environmental relationships. When we act interdependently and in solidarity with creation, we do justice. We serve and keep the earth, trusting its bounty can be sufficient for all, and sustainable.”

For those looking to learn more about the Lutheran call to care for creation, we invite you to read the 1993 social statement on creation care and to get plugged into the work of Lutherans Restoring Creation.

I attended California Immigrant Policy Center (CIPC) Conference & Advocacy Day last Tuesday and Wednesday (April 14 & 15) with Rev. Nelson Rabell. I also got to meet a few people from the Episcopal Diocese of San Joaquin at the event.

Thank you to CIPC for hosting the event and allowing us to help celebrate the 30 years of work that CIPC continues to do to advance immigrant justice.

Thank you also to Senator Angelique Ashby's staff for meeting with us to learn more about ways to protect immigrant rights in our state.

UPDATE 3/6/26: This Action Alert is closed. The bill was NOT passed by either the House or Senate. Thank you for your advocacy.

ORIGINAL: Voting is anticipated soon as Congress considers the bipartisan Iran War Powers Resolution, affirming Congress’s constitutional authority over U.S. decisions of war and peace. As a church that accompanies global partners, our advocacy responds to faith voices from the region which implore us to pray fervently and advocate persistently for just peace. As disciples in a democracy please make your voice heard to oppose unauthorized military action without congressional approval. Action Alert: https://act.elca.org/page/94825/action/1?chain
