❤️🌱 PROJECT RED: Saginaw County’s biggest year yet!
If you saw the line of school buses rolling into Schomaker Farms last week, you may have wondered… what exactly is Project RED?
Project RED — Rural Education Day — is a hands-on agricultural education experience for local 4th graders. Instead of simply reading about agriculture in a classroom, students get to experience it firsthand — meeting animals, interacting with farmers and agricultural professionals, and learning how the food and products they use every day make their way from the farm to their families.
And this year was our most impactful Project RED yet. ❤️
🚌 Nearly 600 fourth graders came through the farm in ONE day, rotating through educational stations and getting an up-close look at agriculture right here in Saginaw County.
But numbers only tell part of the story.
Behind those buses were hundreds of kids asking questions, touching animals, making connections and learning things about agriculture they may have never had the opportunity to experience before.
And behind all of them was an incredible group of volunteers, presenters, farmers, educators and community partners who gave their time to make it happen. We could not do this without you.
Over the next several weeks, we’re going to take you inside Project RED and highlight the different educational stations, the people who made them possible, and — most importantly — what our students learned. 🌽🐄🐔🌱
Because when kids understand where their food comes from, they build a connection to agriculture that can last far beyond one day on the farm.
This is Project RED. ❤️
