Saguache County Social Services is Hiring

The Saguache County Department of Social Services is accepting applications for an Eligibility Technician.
Starting pay is $18.35 per hour, with potential for higher compensation based on experience and qualifications.
This position is responsible for intake and assessment to determine eligibility for public assistance programs, including Colorado Works/TANF, Health First Colorado (Medicaid), and Food Assistance/SNAP.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and a valid driver’s license. Additional training and testing requirements apply.

⚠️ FLOOD WATCH Issued for SAGUACHE COUNTY ⚠️

The National Weather Service in Pueblo has issued a Flood Watch for portions of Saguache County, including the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and San Luis Valley.

Deep tropical moisture from the remnants of Hurricane Polo is expected to bring heavy rainfall across southern Colorado, with the heaviest rainfall expected late tonight into Wednesday. Flooding and flash flooding are possible, and saturated soils may result in high flows along streams, rivers, normally dry creeks, and arroyos.

Residents are encouraged to remain weather aware and have multiple ways to receive weather warnings.

Never drive through flooded roadways. Turn Around, Don’t Drown.

📢 Clerk & Recorder’s Office Closure Notice

The Saguache County Clerk & Recorder’s Office will be CLOSED Monday, September 21, and Tuesday, September 22, 2026, to allow staff to maintain their Elections certifications.

The closure will include ALL services, including:

🚗 Motor Vehicle
📄 Recording
🗳️ Elections
🪪 Driver License

Normal business hours will resume Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

New Affordable Housing Now Open in Saguache! 🏠

Saguache County is pleased to share that Range View, a new affordable housing development in Saguache, is now open!

Range View is a partnership between Saguache County and Northwest Real Estate Capital Corp. and will provide 32 new affordable housing units for individuals and families. The development offers one-, two-, and three-bedroom units for qualifying households.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held September 17 at 1:00 PM to celebrate this important addition to our community.

Range View opened its doors August 31 and is currently leasing its remaining units. For eligibility and leasing information, contact:

Saguache County is reminding residents to be cautious of fraudulent emails impersonating County departments or employees.

📧 Always check the sender’s email address.
Official Saguache County email addresses end in:

-co.gov

Scammers may use the name of a County employee or department while sending from a completely unrelated email address. A familiar name does not mean the email is legitimate.

💰 Be especially cautious of unexpected payment or wire transfer requests. Saguache County will rarely request payment by wire transfer. If you receive a request for a wire transfer or unexpected payment, contact the County department directly to verify the request before sending any money.

☎️ When in doubt, call us!
If an email seems suspicious, contact the department it claims to be from using a known phone number or contact information from the official Saguache County website at saguachecounty.colorado.gov.

⚠️ Do not use phone numbers, links, or contact information contained in a suspicious email to verify the request.

🚧 PUBLIC NOTICE – Temporary Closure of NFS Road 787 and Surrounding Area

The Rio Grande National Forest – Saguache Ranger District has issued a temporary closure of National Forest System (NFS) Road 787 and the surrounding area near the South Fork Saguache Creek Wilderness Trailhead to protect public health, safety, and natural resources.

📅 Closure Effective:
July 6, 2026, at 12:01 a.m.
through
August 15, 2026, at 11:59 p.m., unless rescinded.

🚫 During this closure:
• Public entry into the designated closure area is prohibited.
• Motor vehicle use on the closed portion of NFS Road 787 is prohibited.

The attached map identifies the affected road and closure area.

Exemptions apply to authorized personnel, emergency responders, and individuals with appropriate Forest Service authorization.
