WV STATE PLAN FOR INDEPENDENT LIVING
LISTENING SESSIONS

Charleston, WV – The West Virginia Statewide Independent Living Council (WVSILC) along with the West Virginia Independence Network (WIN) will hold multiple listening sessions throughout WV to receive public input for developing the State Plan for Independent Living (SPIL).

The SPIL is a three-year plan for strengthening independent living in West Virginia. Developed by the WV Statewide Independent Living Council (WVSILC) with Centers for Independent Living, also known as the WV Independence Network (WIN), public input, and approved by WV Division of Rehabilitation (WVDRS), the SPIL governs how Federal and State Independent Living Funds will be spent, what services will be provided, how the statewide network of Centers for Independent Living (CILs) will be developed, how the SPIL will be monitored, and how the WVSILC will collaborate with other councils and agencies to improve Independent Living services.

If you are a resident of West Virginia and have a disability or are a family member or a caregiver of a person with a disability, we want to hear from you. Join us and let us know how you believe Independent Living Funds should be used, what services should be provided, and where services should be provided.

🌟 Meet Christen! 🌟

Christen’s accomplishments are a true reflection of her hard work, dedication, and determination. From graduating high school with high honors to becoming a graduate of Partners in Policymaking, she has continued to use her voice to advocate for herself and others.

🏆 She has been named People First of WV Self-Advocate of the Year twice, serves as a Governor-appointed member of the WV Developmental Disabilities Council, and is a VIP member of the WV Statewide Independent Living Council.

Beyond advocacy, Christen stays active in her community through Special Olympics bowling, Challenger Baseball, inclusive dance, and Tennis for Fun. She is also a passionate model and has proudly walked the runway for the Exceptional Possibilities Fashion Show for three years! 👠✨

Christen’s journey shows what can happen when hard work, confidence, and a passion for making a difference come together. We are proud to celebrate all that she has accomplished—and all that she continues to achieve! 💙🌟
