PRESS RELEASE

On May 8, 26, at approximately 7:49 pm., the St. Albans Police Department received an emergency call that a single person had sustained a gunshot wound during an altercation at a residence on Lake Road in St. Albans Town. It was reported that the person sustaining a gunshot wound was tranported to the Northwestern Medical Center by a private vehicle.

Officers of St. Albans Police Department Patrol Division and Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to investigate this incident, receiving assistance from the Swanton Village Police Department and the Vermont State Police. St. Albans Police located the person who had sustained a gunshot wound, as well as a person of interest and witnesses to the event at separate locations in St. Albans.

The gunshot wound(s) sustained by a single subject in this incident resulted in minor injuries for which the subject was treated by staff at the Northwestern Medical Center before being released.

As a result of a thorough investigation, Jeffrey S. Leclair, age 28, of St. Albans was arrested without incident on suspicion that he had committed acts of Attempted First Degree Murder, Aggravated Assault, Reckless Endangerment (Multiple Counts), and Cruelty to a Child (Two Counts).

Its was determined that this was an isolated incident and that all parties to the incident were contacted and appropriate enforcement actions were taken through this investigation and arrest.

A judicial officer of the Vermont Superior Court ordered that Leclair be held without bail prior to arraignment, and also imposed conditions of release, in accordance with a request from the Office of the Franklin County State’s Attorney. Leclair was lodged at the Northwest State Correctional Facility in Saint Albans, VT in accordance with these court orders.
