Today, the Minnesota Court of Appeals upheld a district court's decision to strike down a portion of the nearly 1,500 page omnibus bill passed in the final hour of the 2024 legislative session. The Court of Appeals affirmed that the bill violated the Minnesota Constitution's single-subject clause. Unfortunately, the Court of Appeals declined to strike down the entire law.

Appeals Court Judge Kevin Ross said it best, “No one could read even the first three pages of the challenged 1,500-page law we are considering today — the offspring of nine, multi-topic omnibus bills folded into a gargantuan mega-omnibus bill — and maintain even a slight impression that she is reading a law embracing only one subject,” Ross wrote. “I write separately only to mourn the loss of the state Constitution’s single-subject clause,” Ross added.

This bill jammed through by Minnesota Democrats was a legislative atrocity. Legislators must follow the Constitution in how they make law. Minnesotans deserve transparency and accountability in their government, and stopping gigantic omnibus bill abuse and following our state constitution would go a long way to restoring the people's trust in their government.

CMFA UPDATE

Hey there! I’m up to my eyeballs with planning, cleaning and prepping for an upcoming grad party at our place on the 30th…so for that reason I am going to cancel May’s CMFA meeting and Movie night which is supposed to be this coming Sunday (24th) and Thurs (28th).

BUT…I want you to mark your calendars for:
• Jun 4 and 18 for Prayer Force, 11am - noon at Jubilee Worship Center.
• June 25, 6:30-8 CMFA meeting with State Session update from Rep Bernie Perryman!
• June 28 for Movie Night, Beneath Sheep’s Clothing

Looking forward to connecting in June! There is a LOT happening in our state and I am certain there are places where we could be of help!

I received the written response from the Stearns County Administrator.

The commissioners WILL NOT hold a public forum, nor will they take a vote regarding the MN state flag.

Commissioner Bertram is the only one who spoke in favor of addressing this issue. He is the ONLY Stearns County Commissioner who believes the voices of the people of our county should be heard on this topic. Bertram is fighting for us while the others are hiding behind their "policy."

Remember this when it's time to elect County Commissioners.

Commissioner Johnson, Commissioner Clark, Commissioner Notch, Commissioner Perske, the people of Stearns County are paying attention.
