The American College of Paramedics, American Paramedic Association, and The Paramedic Foundation stand with our Canadian colleagues and the Canadian Armed Forces Base Wainwright community.

We extend our deepest condolences to everyone who is grieving, and we keep close in our thoughts those who are recovering, their loved ones, and the military community.

We especially recognize the paramedics who cared for the injured, alongside the military personnel, first responders, and health care teams who responded and continue to provide care.

Our shared commitment to caring for others reaches beyond borders. To our Canadian colleagues, we share one calling, and we grieve with you.

Paramedicine lost a well-respected and deeply loved member of its ranks yesterday.

John Osborn built and facilitated the Paramedics on Facebook, a community of more than 800,000 members that connected people across the globe. He made a large world small.

His personal friends have already spoken to who he was, and there is little we can add to their words. What we can say is this: John was a quiet professional who never sought fame or fortune. He was known instead for how he took care of his coworkers, his community, and his family.

Rest in peace, John. We will take it from here.

Yesterday, the American College of Paramedics delivered a formal public comment to the National EMS Advisory Council. Four priorities. One message.

→ Recognize community paramedicine, treat-in-place & treat-and-divert as core EMS — with permanent federal reimbursement
→ Commission a national American Paramedic Competence Framework modeled on Canada’s proven system
→ Designate physical and psychological health infrastructure as the 16th element of every EMS system
→ Give the profession a formal advisory role in federal rural health policy

Paramedicine has matured. The infrastructure needs to catch up.
