👶💤 Babies need special sleep environments to help protect them against sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). October is SIDS Awareness Month, a time to encourage safe sleeping habits and raise awareness about the ways we can all help reduce SIDS 🩵🩷

It is important to:
▪️Lay babies on their back to sleep
▪️Use a firm mattress
▪️Dress babies in warm sleep clothes and swaddle sacks instead of using blankets
▪️Remove all objects from the crib, including stuffed animals, blankets, pillows, and crib bumpers
▪️Remove hats, pacifier clips, and any other materials that can be a hazard

❗Remember, safe sleep recommendations change when we learn new information - that’s why it might be different than what was used in the past. Keeping up with the latest recommendations helps keep our babies safe and healthy!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

Early detection of saves lives! This month, take some time to learn more about breast health, understand your personal risk, and make screening part of the conversation.

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in the United States, and finding breast cancer early often makes treatment easier. Knowing what’s normal for your body and paying attention to changes matters.

This October:
• Know your body and pay attention to changes in your breast or chest tissue.
• Learn about your personal and family health history.
• Talk with your healthcare provider about your risk and when screening is right for you.
• Encourage the people you care about to prioritize their breast health, too.

Throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Columbia County Public Health will share information and resources to help our community learn more about breast health, risk factors, screening, and early detection.
