A Little Kindness Goes a Long Way! 🚲❤️

On October 7, 2026, I had the honor of meeting Steven and Angela Harris of MeltingPlasticCo.

Steven and Angela are small business owners in Columbia City who wanted to find a meaningful way to give back to the community that has been so good to them. They decided to purchase two children’s bicycles and two helmets to donate to local kids in need. They stopped by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and asked us to help identify two children who could use a little extra kindness and make sure those bicycles found their way to them.

Sheriff Pixley said, "Acts of generosity like this are a great reminder that it takes all of us working together to make our community a better place. It’s not always about doing something big; sometimes, it’s about making a difference in the life of a child and putting a smile on their face".

On behalf of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, thank you, Steven and Angela, for thinking of others and for showing what community spirit is all about. We are proud to serve a county filled with people who genuinely care about their neighbors.

Thank you for making a difference, one bicycle at a time! ❤️🚲

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and you may see some CCSO Deputies wearing pink badges on their uniforms in recognition. CCSO is proud to raise public awareness towards breast cancer.
Nationwide law enforcement historically partners with the American Cancer Society to raise awareness. Each year, the month of October is recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month by many governments, the media, and cancer survivors. The month-long campaign has been called "Pinktober."

Earlier today, Deputy Sheriff R. Harris graduated from his basic police academy training from the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards & Training (DPSST) Class in Salem, Oregon.

During the basic police course, recruits are taught the skills needed as a foundation for their career. Topics and subjects include ethics, academics, survival skills, law, de-escalation, resiliency, etc.

This is all accomplished in a residential setting where the recruits are away from their homes and family during the work week.

Kudos to Deputy Harris for studying hard and representing Columbia County so well!

SUSPECT ARRESTED FOLLOWING HIGHWAY 30 SHOOTING INVESTIGATION

Columbia County, Oregon — A 30-year-old Sandy, Oregon, man has been arrested and lodged in the Columbia County Jail following an investigation into a reported shooting on Highway 30 near Goble, OR.

At approximately 3:30 a.m. on September 10, 2026, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) Deputies responded to a report that a motorist had fired a gun at another vehicle near Goble, OR on Highway 30.

The reporting party told Deputies that a dark-colored SUV towing an ATV trailer had stopped in the middle of Highway 30. The driver reportedly exited the SUV and fired a gun through the rear window of the reporting party’s vehicle. The victim then drove directly to the Sheriff’s Office to report the incident.

While examining the vehicle, Deputies observed a shattered rear window, what appeared to be a bullet impact or deflection point on the rear of the vehicle, and what appeared to be a bullet jacket near the driver’s seat. Deputies also responded to the reported shooting scene but initially located no additional evidence.

Over the following days, Deputies continued the investigation, collecting evidence and obtaining video footage from several local businesses. This evidence helped investigators identify the suspect as 30 year old Xavier Cerrillo of Sandy, Oregon.

On September 23, 2026, CCSO Deputies, with assistance from the St. Helens Police Department, and Sandy Police Department, executed search warrants at Cerrillo’s residence and vehicles. During the searches, investigators located a stolen fi***rm and am******on. Cerrillo was located, arrested and lodged in the Columbia County Jail.

Cerrillo was lodged in the Columbia County Jail on the following charges:
• Attempted Murder in the Second Degree
• Attempted Assault in the First Degree
• Unlawful Use of a Weapon
• Criminal Mischief in the First Degree
• Felon in Possession of a Fi***rm
• Menacing
• Recklessly Endangering

Sheriff Brian Pixley said, “This was a serious and dangerous incident that could have easily resulted in someone losing their life. I’m proud of the hard work and dedication our Deputies demonstrated throughout this investigation. Their persistence, along with the assistance of local businesses and law enforcement partners helped us identify and arrest the suspect. I’m grateful for the teamwork and professionalism that went into bringing this investigation to this point.”

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the St. Helens Police Department, Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office and Sandy Police Department as well as our local businesses for their assistance and cooperation. The collaboration among these agencies played an important role in advancing the investigation and executing the search warrants.
