WATONWAN COUNTY OFFICE CLOSURE NOTICE
Monday, October 12, 2026
Watonwan County will have brief office closures on Monday to allow our employees to participate in important safety training.
We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate the public’s understanding as we take time to train and prepare our employees to help maintain a safe environment for our staff and the public.
Human Services Building
Closed Monday morning.
Offices will open at 12:30 PM and remain open for the rest of the business day.
Courthouse & Resource Center
Offices will be open Monday morning.
Offices will close at 2:00 PM for the remainder of the day.
Both buildings will reopen Tuesday morning for normal business hours.
Please plan accordingly if you need to conduct business with Watonwan County on Monday, October 12.

RAINY FRIDAY EXPECTED: A weather system will produce a widespread swath of heavy rain (1-2") across much of the southern half of Minnesota and western Wisconsin on Friday. Rain is likely for much of the day, however there are "two rounds" of heavy rain expected. The first round begins early Friday across southwestern MN. Rain will overspread the forecast area through the morning and continue into the early afternoon before rainfall rates begin to weaken.

SUN 06-SEP- FLOOD WATCH UNTIL 10 PM THIS EVENING FOR WATONWAN COUNTY: ESPECIALLY LOW LYING AREAS PRONE TO FLOODING.
Slow moving thunderstorms are possible throughout the day today. These storms could produce high rainfall rates, which could lead to flash flooding. A flash flood watch means "be prepared", and make sure you are able to receive any warnings if they are issued.

ODIN, ORMSBY, BUTTERFIELD AREAS: ...A STRONG THUNDERSTORM WILL IMPACT NORTHWESTERN MARTIN AND
SOUTHWESTERN WATONWAN COUNTIES UNTIL 915 AM CDT...

At 834 AM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near
Butterfield, or 26 miles northwest of Fairmont, moving north at 5
mph.

HAZARD...Half inch size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Heavy rainfall
is occurring with this nearly stationary storm. Minor
flooding is possible.

Locations impacted include...
Ormsby, Odin, Echols and Butterfield.

At 512 AM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a line of strong
thunderstorms extending from 7 miles west of Hanska to near Truman,
or extending from 14 miles southwest of New Ulm to 9 miles north of
Fairmont, moving east at 40 mph.

HAZARD...Penny size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible.

Mankato, Fairmont, North Mankato, St. James, Blue Earth, Lake
Crystal, Eagle Lake, Madelia, Mapleton, Winnebago, Truman, Madison
Lake, St. Clair, Minnesota Lake, Welcome, Good Thunder, Amboy,
Hanska, Vernon Center and Lewisville.

ST JAMES, LASALLE, AND MADELIA: A strong thunderstorm is coming through during the 9PM hour. There is NO watch or warning associated with this strong, but isolated cell.

A STRONG THUNDERSTORM WILL IMPACT NORTHERN WATONWAN COUNTY UNTIL
945 PM CDT...

At 901 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 8
miles northeast of Butterfield, or 21 miles southwest of New Ulm,
moving east at 30 mph.

HAZARD...Nickel size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible.

Locations impacted include...
Sveadahl, St. James, La Salle, St James Airport, Grogan, Madelia
and Lewisville.
