This weekend, daylight savings time comes to an end! While many of our clocks automatically adjust themselves, there’s one important thing you still need to remember — CHANGE YOUR BATTERIES! 🔋

The St. James Fire Department reminds everyone to take a few minutes to check their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, replace batteries where needed, and make sure they’re working properly.

A few minutes of prevention can save lives!

On Sunday evening, October 25th, the St. James Fire Department was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire on Fifth Avenue, with initial reports of possible occupants trapped inside.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered smoke showing from the residence, and a working fire was transmitted, bringing additional resources from neighboring departments.

Initial reports indicated that the fire originated in Halloween decorations outside the home, spreading to the exterior siding and extending into the attic crawl space.

Firefighters quickly located the fire and began suppression operations, successfully extinguishing the blaze and preventing further spread.

Thankfully, all occupants had safely evacuated the residence prior to the arrival of fire department personnel.

We would like to thank our neighboring mutual aid departments for their quick response and assistance. The coordinated efforts of all firefighters on scene helped bring this incident under control.

Training for the Real Thing! 🔥🚒

Members of the St. James Fire Department recently participated in a challenging training exercise simulating a basement fire.

Since the training facility doesn't have an actual basement, our firefighters had to get creative! Crews stretched a significant amount of hose around the building and up a flight of stairs to the second floor before advancing down to the first floor to attack the simulated "basement" fire.

The exercise brought together both senior and newer members, providing a great opportunity to share experience, sharpen skills, and work together as a team.

💪 Training like this helps ensure our firefighters are prepared for whatever challenges they may face when the alarm sounds!

🚑🏃‍♂️ St. James Fire Department Supporting Our Community!

Members of the St. James Fire Department's ambulance crew were on standby this past Sunday during the Catholic Health Suffolk County Marathon, ready to provide emergency medical assistance if needed.

We're always proud to support community events and help keep participants and spectators safe!

👏 A special thank you to our dedicated volunteers for giving their time to support this great event as their day started at 4:00 am!

Members of the St. James Fire Department recently visited the local preschool children at the St James Episcopal Church as part of our ongoing Fire Prevention Program!

The children learned important fire safety lessons, got an up-close look at our firefighters and their equipment, and even had some hands-on fun operating a fire hose! 🚒💦

We always enjoy spending time with our youngest community members, teaching them that fire safety starts at any age!

A big thank you to the preschool for welcoming us!

🚒🔥 Fire Prevention Starts Young!

Members of the St. James Fire Department recently visited the Pre-K classes at St. James Elementary School, where over 70 children participated in a fun and educational lesson about fire prevention and safety!

The children had a great time learning important fire safety lessons, and the visit was extra special for a few students whose fathers are members of our volunteer fire department!

We always enjoy the opportunity to educate our youngest community members, share the importance of fire safety, and help make our community a safer place!

With the approaching nor’easter, members of the St. James Fire Department have been preparing to make sure we’re ready to respond when our community needs us.

Members have been checking equipment, preparing apparatus, and making sure everything is ready for the expected conditions. During the storm, we will have crews standing by at the firehouse, allowing us to respond quickly to emergencies throughout our community.

We encourage everyone to stay safe, use caution, and avoid unnecessary travel during the worst of the storm.

As always, the St. James Fire Department is ready to serve our community.
