Last night Concord firefighters worked on what we call “2-minute drills.” In this scenario, we re-create the first 2 minutes of our arrival at a fire. Simultaneously our hose crew pulls and flakes out a fire hose, staging it and equipment for entry and fire extinguishment of a burning building all while the driver/operator of the engine sets the truck up for flowing water and then establishes a water supply by using either a hydrant or a tanker/drop tank.
The point of the drill is to have the hose team in place and flowing water in under a minute, and the truck established with a water supply in under two minutes. This can be a very tricky drill, especially for the driver/operator as multiple intense tasks must be completed in rapid succession. Again, we invited our neighbors at Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Department to come and run the drills with us as they learn how to deploy their Engine and become familiarized with its setup and operation.
