Today, our hearts are heavy as we mourn the tragic loss of a road worker who was killed while working in an active construction zone in a neighboring county.

This heartbreaking incident is a reminder that the men and women who build, repair, and maintain our roads put themselves in harm's way every day to serve the traveling public. They leave home expecting to return to their families, just as each of us does.

We extend our deepest condolences to the worker's family, friends, and coworkers at the Eaton County Road Commission during this incredibly difficult time. No family should have to endure such a loss.

As we reflect on this tragedy, we ask everyone to remember the importance of slowing down, staying alert, and following traffic control devices when traveling through work zones. A few moments of caution can save a life.

Please keep this worker's loved ones and fellow crew members in your thoughts and prayers. Let us honor their memory by making safety our highest priority every time we enter a work zone.

Slow down. Stay alert. Protect the people working to keep our roads safe.

A road worker was killed at the scene of a two-vehicle crash in an Eaton County work zone on Lansing Road near Potterville, police said.
