Saint Louis Area Fire Departments 1st annual daycare visit day was a big hit, although Sparky the fire dog stole the show.
This was a great time for our crews to start our recruiting process, entertain some kiddos but most importantly gather essential information about these businesses. Today’s visits allowed us to gain information such as how many children are in each daycare, hours of operation and where the normal daycare operations take place in these homes incase our services are ever needed. This information will be loaded on truck I Pads and create a data base built around our community risk reduction plan.
Strong preplanning for best outcomes!

A little competition erupted in the GITEC class today between first year and second year students. Saint Louis Jr. Marcus Hoyt thought he was ready to take on #3 in the state and GESA firefighter Clewley.
Young Marcus held his own but cut a few disqualifying corners to give Clewley the big win!!

Today Saint Louis First responders were dispatched to a person who fell down a very steep river bank and injured. On arrival our great police partners forwarded information that the subject was injured and many feet down a straight bank. Firefighters deployed rope kits that are pre-rigged for this style call, backboard and a stokes basket, C collared the patient and prepared for an estimated 35 foot lift. Our patient made it to the top in good spirits before being transferred to MMR’s care. Police, Fire and Gratiot County Central Dispatch flawlessly working together on this tech rescue call as 1 team.
And we wouldn’t trade it for nothing….
Great results from a great team.

Big announcement for new certs.
Firefighter Kress has been putting in the work with completing her EMT cert only 4 months after high school graduation. Firefighter Kress has completed FF I & II through the GITEC program as a senior and only a 2 day break before going straight to the MyMichigan EMT program. This hard work and dedication is something we can’t find every day and we couldn’t be prouder of her accomplishments. She’s already to start herself a career as a full time firefighter at 18.
Keep going Reese, we’re proud of you!
