Calhoun County Library Official page of the Calhoun County Library (SC). The Calhoun County Library opened in its new St. Matthews location in June 2010.

As an SCLENDS member library, patrons have access to over 3 million books, DVDs, audiobooks and other items through the SCLENDS consortium. The library is adjacent to the Calhoun County Community Development Center and Calhoun County Courthouse building. We welcome comments and ask each user to be courteous. Users are responsible for the content of their postings. We reserve the right to delete any of the following: violent, obscene, profane, hateful, or racist comments; comments that threaten or defame any person or organization; solicitations, advertisements, or endorsements of any financial, commercial, political candidate, or non-governmental agency; comments that suggest or encourage illegal activity; multiple successive off-topic posts by a single user; repetitive posts copied and pasted by multiple users; personal info including, but not limited to, email addresses, telephone numbers, mailing addresses, or ID numbers. Did you know that our local schools are filled with little authors? The library attended Roll and Read, hosted by Calhoun County First Steps, on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, to promote early literacy and our visitors wrote a story! Students rolled a dice and then gave a sentence based on the picture shown. Each group wrote a full story about ghosts, pumpkins, black cats, and more spooky items! It was so much fun and we love seeing how our local students are loving literacy!

Checkmate! We had an extraordinary turnout for our Chess Challenge on Saturday, October 10, 2026! 11 brave participants took on our Director! It even took an hour for our very first person to get their king checked. How impressive is that? After two full hours of nothing but strategic chess moves, we handed out 11 participation T-shirts and 2 winning trophies (3 if you count the Director). With many questions about it, we have decided to start a chess club here at the library as well. Be on the lookout for more information soon! Until then, remember to keep your kings safe!

We are currently accepting UNCUT pumpkins that are decorated as book characters. Admission closes on Thursday, October 22, 2026, and voting stops on Friday, October 30, 2026. Winners will be announced at Boo Bash! on Halloween night. Get your pumpkins and votes in now!

Our pumpkin contest has returned! Come enter your UNCUT book character pumpkins for a chance to win some great prizes. We will be accepting pumpkins until Thursday, October 22, 2026. Voting will stop on Friday, October 30, 2026, and the winners will be announced during Boo Bash! on Halloween night. We can't wait to see all our pumpkin artists!
