There are a lot of warning signs in Minnesota’s health care system right now. Premiums are going up, some insurance options are shrinking, providers are consolidating and the cost of public health programs continues to grow.

I wrote about these challenges in the Star Tribune and why I believe we need to take a hard look at where things are headed before the problems get even harder to fix.

You can read the full piece here:

"However, having a strong health care system and having a sustainable health care system are two different things. Increasingly, Minnesota is struggling to achieve both," state Rep. Danny Nadeau writes.

I’m looking forward to helping lead this work.

Minnesota’s human services systems are overdue for modernization, better coordination, and stronger safeguards against fraud. This commission gives us an opportunity to build on the work we did this past session and make sure those improvements lead to better service for families and real accountability for taxpayers.

If you’ve ever had surgery, there was almost certainly a Surgical Technologist in the room helping make sure everything was ready, sterile and where it needed to be. This a big part of successful surgery, and their work helps maintain the high standards of care patients expect.

Next week is National Surgical Technologists Week, and I’m glad one of my constituents reached out to remind me to recognize the surgical technologists who serve patients in hospitals and surgical centers across Minnesota. Thank you for the work you do!

Twenty-five years after September 11th, there is now an entire generation of Americans who know that day only through the stories we tell.

That makes remembering even more important.

We have a responsibility to carry forward the stories of those whose lives were taken, the first responders and civilians who showed extraordinary courage, the families who endured unimaginable loss, and the Americans who answered the call to serve in the years that followed.

September 11th changed our country in ways that are still with us today. As we mark 25 years, let’s remember the people at the heart of that history and the strength, courage, and unity Americans found in one another during one of our darkest moments.

In the days after September 11th, Americans came together--not as Republicans or Democrats, but as Americans. We should never forget what that unity looked like, or what it made possible. Today, let’s honor those we lost by choosing to stand together, look out for one another, and remember that what unites us is far greater than what divides us.

We remember. We honor. We stand together. We will never forget.

It’s hard to believe summer is already behind us and Halloween is right around the corner!

But first, It’s back to school season.

As students head back to school this week, I want to wish everyone a great start to the year. I know the first few days can be a little hectic for families as schedules change and everyone gets back into the routine.

Thank you to our teachers, staff, bus drivers, parents and everyone else who puts in the work to make the school year happen. A lot goes into getting kids where they need to be and helping them have a good year.

Here’s to an exciting new school year!

With Labor Day weekend coming up, a heads up for anyone who will be traveling through Rogers: County Road 81 is currently closed approximately three-quarters of a mile west of Brockton Lane/County Road 101.

The closure is expected to remain in place through the end of September while crews install utilities and construct the new roundabout at County Road 81 as part of the Fletcher Bypass project. The posted detour uses Brockton Lane/County Road 101, Dayton Parkway, I-94, Highway 101/Main Street and County Road 81. Local access to homes and businesses along County Road 81 will remain available.

If you spend much time driving through Rogers, you’ve probably noticed how much traffic has increased as the community has grown. Making sure infrastructure keeps pace with that growth is something I've paid close attention to in my work at the Capitol and in conversations with our local officials. The Fletcher Bypass is one of the larger projects underway locally to address those pressures and improve traffic flow and safety.

You can find the closure map and additional Fletcher Bypass information from the City of Rogers here:

The City of Rogers, in partnership with Hennepin County, is designing a roadway improvement which realigns a 3/4-mile segment of Fletcher Lane between south of Territorial Road and County Road 81 to the new Fletcher Bypass location in Rogers. The project is designed to enhance traffic operations, im...

If you own a home, here’s one property tax update worth knowing about.

The Legislature put an additional $125 million toward the 2025 Homestead Credit Refund, which means eligible homeowners will see their refund increase by about 15%.

If you already filed, you don’t need to do anything. The Department of Revenue will make the adjustment automatically, so don’t amend your return.

If you haven’t filed yet, you still have plenty of time. The deadline for the 2025 refund is in August 2027.

Over the next few months, homeowners will also start seeing more information from their city, county and school district about proposed levies and next year’s tax picture. Those local decisions will have a lot to do with where property tax bills go from here.

I know property taxes are something a lot of people in our area keep a close eye on, so I wanted to pass this along as those discussions get underway.

Today’s news about the planned Sanford Health and North Memorial Health merger is an important step toward the future of healthcare delivery in Minnesota. I’m grateful for the relationship these two organizations have built and for the work being done to bring together their strengths, expertise and resources.

This partnership strengthens two strong health care organizations at an important time for Minnesota. Sanford’s commitment to invest roughly $500 million in Maple Grove Hospital, along with another $100 million at North Memorial’s Robbinsdale campus, represents a significant investment in Minnesota’s health care infrastructure and will add important capacity to a growing metro area. As demand for health care continues to grow, that additional capacity can help ensure patients have timely access to the care they need.

We have lots more work to do, but the future of our healthcare delivery system will depend on the intersectionality of hospitals, clinics, specialists, insurers, technology, community partners, and how effectively we bring those pieces together. Our goal should be a system that is more accessible, more coordinated, more innovative, more efficient and ultimately delivers better outcomes for patients.

Getting there will require collaboration, new ideas and a willingness to challenge the way things have always been done. Partnerships like this have the potential to help Minnesota adapt to the changing health care needs of the next generation.

As a member of the House Health Committee, I’ll be paying close attention as this merger moves forward. I’m encouraged by the investment and hopeful about what this partnership can mean for the future of health care in Minnesota.

At the end of the day, the measure of success is simple: better care, better value and better outcomes for Minnesota patients and families. Our healthcare future will depend on strong partnerships and a willingness to think differently.

The attorney general’s blessing is seen as the last regulatory hurdle to a deal in which the South Dakota-based system agrees to maintain Robbinsdale hospital for at least a decade.

One year ago today, families of Annunciation endured a tragedy no family should ever experience. My thoughts are with the children whose lives were taken, whose potential and bright futures were cut short. I struggle with the unnatural order of things, the never-ending questions and unfillable void in the lives of their parents. Every child is a source of joy, wonder, and promise. When a child is harmed or lost, the world is left without the future they were meant to bring into it.

Over the past year, I’ve sat with parents who shared stories about their children, their personalities, their dreams, and the things that made them special and irreplaceable. Hearing them talk about what their children experienced, and what they hope no other family will ever endure, stays with me every day.

Those conversations have shaped how I think about safety, care, and the responsibility we all hold to look out for one another. But today is first and foremost a day to remember, a day to honor the children we lost, whose lives made our world brighter, and whose absence is felt deeply.

The Great Minnesota Get-Together kicks off tomorrow!

I’ll be out at the State Fair this year and am looking forward to walking the grounds, visiting with folks, and enjoying some fair food along the way.

If you see me out there, come say hello. The fair is always a great chance to catch up with people from back home and meet Minnesotans from every corner of the state.

Hope to see some familiar faces out there. Have a great State Fair!
