We also want to congratulate Pamela Barragan and Jose Gomez on winning both handguns that were given away during the ceremony.

We want to extend a warm thank you to Gomez Pallets. They hosted a dinner for us as we traveled to Omaha for the National Latino Peace Officers Association Conference. We learned about founder Tony Gomez's story and how you can make your dreams a reality through hard work and belief in yourself. He is an inspiration to us all, and we are thankful for his hospitality.

Congratulations! Great job to everyone involved, and a special congratulations to our member Officer Garcia-Ricalday! 👏

Today, we honored a group of community members and officers who proved why public safety is strongest when we work together.

On the morning of April 22, Rita Chen, Samantha Dickenson, Terry Houle, Kellee Jaglo, and Kendall Line spotted a woman in distress in the Mississippi River.

Kellee immediately called 911 and relayed information to dispatch. That information helped Sergeants Handwerk and P. Lee to locate where the woman entered the water and coordinate a swift response to the scene.

Meanwhile, Kendall scaled a retaining wall, worked her way down the steep riverbank, and jumped into the water without hesitation. She swam out to the woman and began towing her to shore where Samantha, Rita, and Terry were waiting to help.

When Officers Lee, Kinsel, and Garcia-Ricalday arrived, the group holding the woman in the river were exhausted. It took every one of them, together, to physically hold the woman above the rocky water until medics arrived.

None of these individuals knew the woman in the water. They just knew they could not walk away. For their selfless and heroic acts, each of them received a Chief’s Award of Valor, Merit, or Medal of Commendation. Please join us in congratulating them on their well-deserved recognition.
