Liminal: The Space Between
My friend and Yogi, Karla Hollan, recently introduced me to a term that stuck with me: liminal. I canât explain it the way she didâwith the quiet authority of someone who lives this wisdom every dayâbut I can tell you what itâs come to mean for me.
At its most basic, liminal refers to the space in between. Itâs the space between what was and whatâs yet to be. The waiting room between chapters. The threshold. The blurry in between.
Right now, I find myself living in that space. Personally, professionally, spiritually.
As a daughter who cared for a mother lost to Alzheimerâs and a father who recently passed from vascular dementia, Iâve seen liminal moments up close. Those quiet spaces between diagnosis and acceptance, between independence and needing help, between life and loss. These moments are uncomfortable, uncertain, and often unspokenâbut they are also sacred. They are where transformation happens.
So, Iâm learning to honor this in-between. To give it space. To let it shape me. Not everything has to be solved right away. Some days, itâs enough just to sit quietly in the not-yet, to breathe, to listen, and to trust that something meaningful is formingâeven if I canât quite see it yet.
For my clients and their families, this is often where we meet: in the middle of a liminal moment. When the old way of managing health and life no longer works, but the new path isnât yet clear. Thatâs where Guardian Group Services steps inâto help navigate that space. To hold it with compassion, clarity, and grace.
The liminal space can feel lonely. But it doesnât have to be. We are here for the in-between. â¤ď¸
