Fireworks are a holiday tradition, but they can also start dangerous grass and brush fires—especially during the hot, dry conditions we experience in Central Texas.

Before you light any fireworks:

✅ Check your local burn ban status before using fireworks.
✅ Follow your city or county regulations regarding fireworks.
✅ Keep a water hose or fire extinguisher nearby.
✅ Never use fireworks in dry grass or near combustible materials.
✅ Never allow young children to handle fireworks.
✅ Fully extinguish used fireworks by soaking them in water before disposing of them.
✅ If a fire starts, call 911 immediately.

A few moments of preparation can prevent a devastating fire and help keep our community safe.

From all of us at Salado Fire & Bell County ESD #1, have a safe and happy Independence Day! 🇺🇸🚒

With summer heat settling into Central Texas, vegetation is drying out quickly. A small spark from a vehicle, power equipment, welding, or discarded smoking material can become a fast-moving grass fire before you know it.

Remember:
• Keep trailers maintained and safety chains secured.
• Never burn trash during dry or windy conditions.
• Dispose of smoking materials properly.
• Report fires immediately by calling 911.
• Be mindful of weather conditions before working outdoors.

Together, we can reduce the risk of wildfires and help protect our neighbors, homes, and first responders. Fire prevention starts with all of us.

Your mower, tractor, or ATV could start a grass fire.

As temperatures rise, dry grass becomes much easier to ignite. Equipment that creates heat or sparks can accidentally start a fire in seconds.

Before you head outside:
✅ Inspect your equipment for leaks.
✅ Clean grass and debris from around engines and exhaust systems.
✅ Carry a fire extinguisher or water.
✅ Avoid mowing during the hottest and windiest part of the day.
✅ Stop immediately if you smell smoke or notice sparks.

Working safely today helps prevent emergencies tomorrow.

Let's all do our part to keep Central Texas safe this summer.

Central Texas is drying out fast. Are you prepared? Even after recent rains, our grasses and brush can dry within just a few days of hot temperatures, low humidity, and windy conditions. That means the risk of grass fires can increase quickly.

Help protect your family and community by:
• Avoid parking on dry grass.
• Secure trailer chains to prevent sparks.
• Never toss ci******es from your vehicle.
• Delay outdoor burning on hot, windy days.
• Keep a water source nearby when using equipment outdoors.

A few minutes of prevention can save homes, property, and lives.

If you see smoke or fire, call 911 immediately.

Stay aware. Stay prepared. Stay safe.
