There’s something pretty great about spending a few hours on the water with nowhere else you need to be.
Sometimes you catch something.
Sometimes you don’t.
Either way, there’s time to talk, laugh, learn something new, or just enjoy being there.
And sometimes, being there is the whole point.
Dare to Dream connects young people experiencing foster care with consistent adults who keep showing up, through the big milestones and all the completely ordinary days in between.

We’re excited to welcome Mary Schenk to the Salem Angels Board of Directors! 💛
Mary is a relationship builder at heart. With more than 25 years of experience in business development and marketing, years of nonprofit fundraising and community service, and a deep commitment to mentoring, she has built much of her life around bringing people together and helping others feel seen, valued, and included.
Her connection to Salem Angels is personal, too. As a mentor, Mary has seen firsthand what can happen when a consistent adult simply shows up, listens, and believes in a young person (just go watch our video from SOAR 2026 👀).
We’re grateful to have her experience, energy, and servant heart helping guide Salem Angels into what comes next. Please join us in welcoming Mary to the board! 🎉

We’re honored to welcome Karen Peters to the Salem Angels Board of Directors!💛
Karen’s connection to foster care began long before Salem Angels. Growing up here in Salem, her parents fostered more than 75 children over the years, and Karen grew up watching firsthand what it looks like to welcome a child into your home, create safety, and show up during some of life’s hardest moments.
Today, that legacy continues through Karen’s involvement with Salem Angels. For her, serving this mission is deeply personal and a way to honor the example her parents set while continuing to support children and families in her own community.
We’re incredibly grateful to have Karen’s perspective, experience, and heart on our Board of Directors. Please help us welcome her! 💛

The miles are good. The views are better.
But some of the best parts happen somewhere in between - the conversations on the trail, the ridiculous snacks, getting a little lost (maybe not that), and having someone there for the climb.
Mentorship can look like that, too.
Dare to Dream is built around consistent relationships with young people experiencing foster care. Not a perfect speech. Not having all the answers. Showing up. Again and again.
So if you were going hiking anyway…
