Even the left-leaning Willamette Week (that endorsed only TWO Republican legislative candidates this year) recognizes that there should be no contest in Oregon's House District 52.
In our endorsement interview, Sanders spent more time repeating Democratic talking points and attacking Hege with petty digs than he did talking about what his district needs. He…could not provide any specifics of how he thinks the state should address these issues. Sanders has lived in the district for just a little over a year, and when we asked him why he chose this homestead, his answer didn’t demonstrate much care for the place: He was working on a political campaign there at the time he decided to run for office.
Scott Hege, a 16-year Wasco County commissioner who has lived in the district for 35 years…by contrast, has a strong grasp on his district’s needs, and having a Republican voice in the Legislature that has deep knowledge of the industries and economics that buoy his district is a better bet than a slick Democratic scion who repeats party lines with little substance. Vote for Hege.
I've spent more than 35 years living, working, and serving right here in our district. I know our communities, understand the challenges facing local families and businesses, and have a proven record of getting things done.
The Willamette Week decided against endorsing my opponent, Hank Sanders, saying that it would be “doing a disservice to the constituents of District 52.”
Even this left-leaning newspaper recognized the importance of my understanding of the industries and economic issues that matter to our communities, and recognized his lack thereof. I believe experience, local knowledge, and a record of service matter, and I'm ready to put that experience to work for you in Salem.
