PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:

COUNTY-WIDE BURN BAN NOW IN EFFECT — DENT COUNTY, MISSOURI

Effective September 17, 2026, at the request of Fire Chief Derek Thomas, and the Chiefs of Lenox Rural Fire Department, Jadwin Volunteer Fire Department, and Montauk Rural Fire Department, the Dent County Commission has signed and adopted an ordinance implementing a county-wide burn ban due to current drought conditions and the increased danger of fires throughout Dent County.

â—ŹOutdoor burning and open burning are prohibited throughout Dent County. This includes burning trees, logs, brush, stumps, leaves, grass clippings and other vegetative material, as well as burn barrels and agricultural burning.

â—ŹThe ordinance does provide limited exceptions, including cooking or grilling with charcoal, wood, propane, or natural gas in appropriate cooking/grilling appliances, as well as certain heating, construction, and maintenance uses specified in the ordinance. Burning permits may only be authorized with prior approval of the Dent County Commission.

⚠️ VIOLATIONS & LIABILITY:
Anyone maintaining an outdoor fire may be held responsible for fire suppression costs and damages caused by the fire. Violations of the ordinance may constitute a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to 365 days in jail, a fine of up to $2,000, or both.

The burn ban is intended to protect the lives and property of Dent County residents during the current dry conditions. Please do not burn. Even a small fire can spread rapidly when vegetation is dry.

Please help us spread the word by sharing this post with your friends, family, neighbors, and local organizations.

Today, the Dent County Fire Protection District joins fire departments and communities across our nation in remembrance of September 11, 2001.

Twenty-five years ago, 343 FDNY firefighters answered the call and made the ultimate sacrifice.

They climbed the stairs while others were coming down. They entered danger knowing lives depended on them. Their courage, duty, and sacrifice represent the very heart of the fire service.

We remember them.

We remember the law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, military members, civilians, and all 2,977 innocent people whose lives were taken that day. We remember the families who lost loved ones, the survivors, and the first responders who continued to suffer from illnesses related to their service at Ground Zero.

For those of us in the fire service, 9/11 is more than a date in history. It is a reminder of the oath to serve, the bond of brotherhood and sisterhood, and the willingness to answer the call when our communities need us most.

Twenty-five years may have passed, but their sacrifice will never fade from our memory.

343 firefighters.

2,977 lives lost.

Countless heroes.

One nation that will never forget.

From all of us at the Dent County Fire Protection District, we honor the fallen, their families, and all who answered the call.

The Dent County Fire Protection District would like to proudly congratulate Junior Firefighters Connor Montoya and Colleen Montoya on their successful completion of the Sullivan Fire Department Junior Firefighter Academy.

Over the course of an intensive week-long academy, Connor and Colleen dedicated their time, energy, and determination to advancing their firefighting knowledge and skills. Their commitment to learning and personal development demonstrates the qualities that make the fire service strong—dedication, discipline, teamwork, and a desire to serve others.

Throughout the academy, participants were exposed to a variety of hands-on training opportunities designed to prepare the next generation of firefighters. Connor and Colleen embraced every challenge, gaining valuable experience that will help them better protect and serve their community in the future.

A special highlight of the academy was the involvement of David Eigenberg, known to millions as firefighter "Christopher Herrmann" from the television series Chicago Fire. Eigenberg took time to personally instruct academy participants, sharing his experiences and working alongside the junior firefighters throughout training evolutions. His presence provided a unique and memorable learning opportunity, inspiring these young men and women as they continue their journey in the fire service.

The Dent County Fire Protection District is extremely proud of Connor and Colleen for their accomplishment and for their dedication to becoming better firefighters. Their willingness to invest an entire week into training reflects their commitment to excellence and their passion for serving others.

We look forward to watching both Connor and Colleen continue to grow within the fire service and make a positive impact on the communities they serve.

Congratulations, Connor and Colleen, on a job well done!

A special thank you to Sullivan Fire Department for this experience. As well as the cadre of instructors from all over the US. Chief Eric Lewis and crew, we can not thank you enough for your dedication to this wonderful program. Building the next generation of smoke eaters, one class at a time.

I am extremely proud of Connor and Colleen, not just for giving up a whole week of their summer break to attend this training, but for the amount of dedication they have shown. As the Junior Firefighter Program Director for the DCFPD, these 2 remind me that there is still a servants heart in the world. As someone who personally started as a Junior Firefighter with the DCFPD, I am proud to carry on the tradition of teaching the newest generation about the love for the fire service. As Missouri State Fire Marshal Tim Bean stated "leave this place better than when you started."

On Friday, June 5th your Dent County Fire Protection District firefighters were invited to an end of summer school bash at William Lynch Elementary. This has become a yearly tradition and we love to be a part of it.

Engine 8020 arrived with a crew of 5 and deployed the deck gun for some water fun. The kiddos had a blast and we couldn't be more appreciative of the invite! Thank you Mrs. Mandy and Dr. Blau for the invitation.

The Dent County Fire Protection District would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Walmart in Salem for their generous donation of bottled water to our firefighters and emergency responders.

As temperatures rise and our crews continue to serve the citizens of Dent County through emergencies, training, and community events, staying properly hydrated is critical. Donations like this help ensure our responders can continue working safely and effectively through some of the toughest conditions while protecting lives and property across our district.

Community support plays a vital role in our mission, and we are incredibly thankful for businesses like Salem Walmart that recognize and support the needs of local first responders.
From all of us at the Dent County Fire Protection District, thank you for your generosity, partnership, and commitment to our community!

This is a dry run of the new vertical (roof) ventilation training prop. This is the hydraulic adjustment in real time. Adjustable angles allow firefighters to practice on a variety of roof pitches, just like many houses have different pitches in the roof.
