City of Salem Neighborhood Services supports Salem's Neighborhood Associations and encourages Salemites to join with their neighbors to make their neighborhood the best!

Calling all spooky porches, glowing pumpkins, and haunted yards! Highland Neighbors Halloween Home Decorating Contest is back!

Nominate your own home or a neighbor’s by October 27. Reply in the comments, send us a message, or email us with a photo and the home’s address.

Voting will take place October 28 and 29. Two winners will each receive a gift card to Paddington’s Pizza and neighborhood bragging rights!

Last year’s winners at 705 South St NE and 2040 Church St NE are not eligible to win this year so we can give other neighbors a chance to shine. Thank you for helping make Highland festive!

Fircrest Park Ribbon Cutting Eventand Ivy Pull.

Saturday, October 24 from 2-4:30 p.m
At 955 Luradel Avenue S. Snacks provided!

Join Southwest Association of Neighbors (SWAN) to celebrate the renovation of Fircrest Park’s sport court!

The work that’s been done:

Resurfacing treatment

New basketball poles and hoops

New striping for tennis, pickleball and basketball courts

New tennis net

Stick around after the ribbon cutting to help us remove ivy and blackberry regrowth from an area cleared in the spring.
Wear sturdy shoes and bring gloves and tools of your choice.

Extra gloves and disposal bags are available to those who need them.

SWAN is a recipient of a Salem Parks Improvement Fund grant.

North Lancaster Neighborhood Association is hosting their annual neighborhood meeting on Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at 6:30 pm.

Do you live, work or own a business within the North Lancaster neighborhood boundaries and would like to have a voice in your community? Then stop by their annual meeting to learn more and sit in on a presentation on the Sunnyview Road NE and Walker Road NE development and hear from your elected officials.

NOLA is also taking nominations for new board members, so bring your enthusiasm for leading efforts and representing community interests!
