⚡CHARGE INTO FIRE SAFETY! ⚡

This week, our Fire Prevention team hit the classrooms and spoke to over 1,200 students to celebrate Fire Prevention Week, with this year’s theme being: “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower!”

Our team entertained students with fun and engaging skits, and taught important fire safety lessons at East Salem, South Salem, West Salem, and G. W. Carver Elementary. From phones and tablets to toys and other everyday devices, we helped students understand the importance of safely using, charging, and storing items powered by lithium-ion batteries.

A big THANK YOU to our schools, teachers, and students for welcoming our Fire Prevention team and helping us spread the word about fire safety! ❤️

Nacho the cat rescued by Salem Fire-EMS!

This morning, Nachos owner stopped by our fire administration office because he managed to slip into the dash of a vehicle.

Nacho had just left the vet with his owner when he decided to escape from his carrier. Firefighter Barnes jumped into action removing a portion of the dash to safely retrieve and reunite him with owner!

This past week, our crews took advantage of the beautiful weather to flow some water and practice water mapping, which is a technique that helps us maximize our water usage during a fire. They also got to perform simulated structure fire evolutions at our Regional Training Center.

Training today means being better prepared when our community needs us most!

Dedication doesn't end at retirement! 🚒

Retired Battalion Chiefs Eddie Hite and Rob Johnson are still hard at work serving our community as our official Hydrant Maintenance and Painting Team.

Freshly painted hydrants aren't just about looks—their colors indicate specific water flow capabilities. While our fire engines carry 750 gallons of water for an immediate response, establishing a reliable hydrant connection is critical for fully extinguishing a fire.

Thank you to Chief Hite, Chief Johnson, and the Salem Water Department for your ongoing support and partnership!

Today, we had a great time at our Second Annual Retiree Cookout! It was wonderful bringing together our retired and current Salem Fire-EMS personnel for the opportunity to reconnect with those who helped build the foundation of our department while bringing them together with the men and women who continue that tradition today.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make our second annual cookout another memorable one. We’re already looking forward to next year!
