This morning, severe flooding hit Salem hard affecting many of our homes and businesses. If today proved anything, it’s that this City is resilient and shows up for each other.
I would like to express a huge thanks to our Public Works team. Director Nelson, Rob, Glen, Chief Sewer Operator Bud, and Chief Water Operator Dalton, thank you for your dedication and tireless work to keep our City moving. To Kayla and Nathan Ritchie with EMS, and Jesse and Blake from Salem PD thank you for keeping our residents safe. To the Salem VFD as always, you answered the call. Thank you for working with us as a team. We appreciate your service.
A special thank you to Larry Carrico, Nelson, and Dalton, who were out working before the sun even came up.
Thank you to Councilman Hill and City Manager Aimee Comer, and to Greg Garner for all of your help.
City Hall took on flooding as well, but thanks to everyone’s hard work, we’ll be open tomorrow.
To our residents thank you for your grace if I called or showed up at your door at a ridiculous hour, and thank you to those who reached out asking how they could help.
Thank you also to Delegate Clay Riley, who called to check on us. He’s always looking out for Salem. To MonPower, for sending crews to clear trees and keep our power on. I’m sure in the days to come we will hear from the County.
It is humbling to watch this City come together in a time of need. I’m grateful for each and every one of you.
Let’s pray for no more rain tonight, and continue to watch out for one another. It is an honor and a privilege to serve this community.
