Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office Receives
$111,800 Grant to Improve Road Safety

The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office has been awarded a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) to support ongoing traffic enforcement and public education efforts aimed at reducing serious injuries and fatalities on local roadways.

Deputy Matthew Orr stated the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office provides traffic enforcement and safety services to the communities of Riverbank, Patterson, Hughson and Waterford. Funding provided through the OTS STEP Grant will enhance these efforts by allowing deputies to conduct additional, focused enforcement in areas experiencing traffic safety concerns, with an emphasis on reducing dangerous driving behaviors and preventing crashes.

The grant will support DUl checkpoints and impaired-driving patrols, distracted-driving enforcement, and operations targeting dangerous violations such as speeding, failure to yield, red-light and stop-sign violations, and unsafe turns or lane changes. Funding will also support efforts to improve bicycle and pedestrian safety, community traffic safety education, collaborative enforcement with neighboring agencies, and specialized officer training in impaired-driving detection and evaluation.

“Traffic safety begins with everyday decisions,” OTS Director Stephanie Dougherty said. “When we address the risky driving behaviors that put everyone on the road in danger, including speeding, distraction, and impairment, we can prevent crashes and save lives. By supporting enforcement efforts and educating communities, we’re helping to build a safety culture where looking out for others and safe travel behaviors are the norm.”

The grant program runs through September 2027.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Juvenile Suspects Arrested in Bicycle Robbery

On Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at about 1:35 p.m., deputies with Salida Police Services responded to the intersection of Finney Road and Danforth Way in Salida, regarding a robbery. Upon arrival, deputies contacted a juvenile victim who reported that his bicycle had been stolen.

During the investigation, it was determined that a juvenile suspect stole the bicycle after threatening the victim by claiming to be armed with a fi***rm and stating he would shoot him if he did not comply. The victim complied with the suspect’s demands and handed over the bicycle.

Salida Deputies and detectives obtained surveillance footage of the incident and gathered additional evidence. As the investigation progressed, it was determined that a second teenage suspect was involved in the planning and ex*****on of the robbery.
These efforts resulted in the identification of both suspects. Multiple search warrants were authored and served, leading to their arrests. Both minors were booked into the Stanislaus County Juvenile Hall without incident. The victim’s bicycle remains missing.

Out of respect for the victim and California’s confidentiality laws, no further information about the juveniles will be released.

Anyone with information regarding this case is strongly encouraged to contact Detective Rushing at 209-525-5601. You may also submit an anonymous tip by contacting Stanislaus County Area Crime Stoppers at 1-866-602-7463 or go online to stancrimetips.org.

Every speed limit is in place for a reason—to protect lives. Choosing to slow down helps keep our roads safer for drivers, passengers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike.

Our deputies are committed to traffic safety, but preventing crashes starts with every driver making safe choices behind the wheel. Slow down, obey the posted speed limits, and help us keep our community safe.
