Food security within our community and ensuring the ability of our local residents and families to nourish their bodies with good food continues to be a major priority for Chaffee County Government leaders. Departments across the County, as well as many community partners, have been actively monitoring food access issues and have developed a local response action plan. This includes the food access document for Chaffee County, which is maintained by the County Community Foundation. The document is in English and Spanish, and can be found on the Foundation's website: https://www.chaffeecommunity.org/safetynet

Book Club Salida, Salida High School, Family & Youth Initiatives (FYI), and Chaffee County Public Health are bringing the community together for a conversation about how we can help young people thrive. This month’s book is The Addiction Inoculation: Raising Healthy Kids in a Culture of Dependence by Jessica Lahey, which offers research-backed strategies for parents, educators, and communities to support youth and prevent substance use and addiction.

Join us on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at 129 Sackett Avenue, Unit 1, Salida for a guided discussion, coffee, and snacks. The cost is $25, which includes the book and discussion. Parents, caregivers, students, educators, and community members are all welcome.
