What a fun collaboration between Salina South Middle School and Schilling Elementary School! Kindergarten students put their imaginations to work designing their own monsters, and Mrs. Huffstickler’s FACS 2 students used their sewing skills to bring those creative designs to life!

We love seeing our students connect across buildings, share their talents and learn together through hands-on, creative experiences like this.

Did you know? October is Fire Prevention Month. Each year, the Salina Fire Department visits our elementary schools to educate students about the importance of fire safety. And since 2022, Salina Fire has partnered with SPS through the Fire Safety Poster Contest, recognizing elementary students whose artwork helps educate our community about fire safety in a creative way.

This morning, Salina Fire congratulated Krishika at Schilling Elementary School for winning the 2026 Fire Safety Poster Contest.

Her poster, inspired by this year’s theme, “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower!” reminds us how safely charging phones, tablets and other devices can help prevent fires. Krishika’s artwork is helping spread the important reminder that practicing fire safety is something simple we can do every day that can make a super difference!

Thank you to Sign Pro for providing the banners featuring the winning artwork.

Stephanie is the kind of educator whose influence goes beyond teaching math. She makes a meaningful difference in the lives of her students and positively shapes their experience at Central High.

Greatness Grows When You’re Here! And every day at school is a new opportunity for students to learn, grow and connect.

Being at school each day helps students feel more positive about school and themselves while supporting their academic and social success. Consistent daily attendance helps students stay engaged, build a sense of belonging and develop strong habits that support success in the classroom and beyond.

Starting the year strong by building good attendance habits reinforces the importance of being on time and present each day. Families play an important role by making attendance a priority, staying connected with their student’s school and planning ahead to reduce absences.
