Please welcome Sun Street Centers to the Rainbow Connections Network of LGBTQ+ Affirming Care! 🌈

Many LGBTQ+ youth face higher rates of substance use, often because of stress, stigma, and rejection of their identities. Recovery works best when young people feel safe being themselves. Sun Street Centers supports youth and families on the road to recovery, so LGBTQ+ youth and their loved ones feel seen, respected, and accepted from the moment they enter services.

LGBTQIA2S+ youth face higher rates of eating disorders than their peers, often shaped by the stress of stigma, rejection, and pressure around their bodies and identities. Recovery is possible, and it starts with care that supports the whole person.

Today we’re grateful to welcome The Lotus Collaborative to the Rainbow Connections Network of Affirming Care. Lotus specializes in eating disorder recovery, offering holistic care that embraces youth with diverse identities.

Here’s what makes them a bright spot in our network:

💛 Outpatient therapy and nutrition counseling

💚 Mood and trauma virtual intensive outpatient program

This marks Rainbow Connections’ first step into the community college world, and we’re honored to join MPC in the affirming work they’ve long been doing for students in the next chapter of their lives. 🎓

🧡💜 October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and we’re proud to Unify with CommUNITY alongside Harmony At Home who leads Unity Month for our schools and Monterey County communities.

Harmony at Home’s Bullying Prevention Team created a beautiful Unity Day Toolkit full of student activities, a ready-to-use classroom conversation, family conversation prompts, and templates for schools and community partners. Choose any day in October, wear orange and purple, and turn one day of unity into everyday belonging.

🎨 A note on the artwork: This month’s design comes from Maria TMD Creative who poured her heart into every detail. The rolling rows pay tribute to the Salinas Valley fields, the gazebo is inspired by the sweet one at Las Casitas Park, and the school building represents Salinas High School. Thank you, Maria, for creating art that lets our commUNITY see itself!

What does LGBTQ+ joy, mental health, community, care, hope, or belonging mean to you? We’d love to see it in a sticker, a drawing, a poem, a song, or whatever form your creativity takes. 💜

A huge thank you to our partners at The Diversity Center who have been traveling to schools across the county leading Sticker & Art Labs with students. Your energy and care are bringing so much creativity to life! 🙌

How to share your work:
1️⃣ Email a photo or digital image to [email protected]
2️⃣ Schedule a Sticker & Art Lab session for your school’s LGBTQ+ club
3️⃣ Arrange a time for us to pick up physical pieces from your school

Sticker tip: designs are 2” x 2” circles, so keep your art inside the border (swipe to the last slide for the guide ➡️)

All stickers and artwork will be displayed at the Rainbow Connections Student Wellness Expo on Friday, November 13 in Salinas! ✨
