A Passion for Youth and a New Opportunity at the Rowan Achievement Center
The Rowan Achievement Center is excited to welcome Jahaun Phillips to the team as a teacher in the Aspire program, a new program designed to provide students with opportunities and experiences that have never been offered before at the center.
For Phillips, joining the Rowan Achievement Center was an opportunity he did not hesitate to embrace.
“I worked at Salisbury High School the last three years, and an opportunity to leave there surfaced, and I landed here, and I’m so glad,” Phillips said.
And his enthusiasm for his new position is clear. When asked, If you could change your job right now, where would you work? his answer was simple:
“I would still be here.”
Phillips’ path to education was a natural progression. He began his teaching career at age 35, after spending several years working with youth. His previous experiences gave him a strong foundation for connecting with students and supporting them as they work toward their goals.
Today, one of his favorite parts of his role is exactly what brought him to education in the first place: the students.
“I enjoy talking to the youth and helping the youth,” Phillips said.
While Phillips is enjoying his new role, he does have one wish for his students: that they would complete their work right on time. It’s a small challenge in comparison to the bigger goal he has for his students—helping them grow, succeed and take advantage of the opportunities available through Aspire.
Looking toward the future, Phillips hopes to continue making a difference for many years to come. He would like to remain in education for another 15 to 25 years, continuing to work with young people and help them reach their potential.
With his experience working with youth, genuine enthusiasm for his students and excitement about the possibilities offered through the Aspire program, Phillips is already making an impact at the Rowan Achievement Center.
Welcome to the Rowan Achievement Center, Mr. Phillips! We’re glad you’re here.
