Countywide burn ban extended
LYNN ADAMS | STAFF WRITER

Sequoyah County Commissioners have extended the countywide burn ban that has been in place since August 12.

During their Monday weekly meeting, the commissioners extended the burn ban through Labor Day, September 7.

The commissioners, with counsel from the county’s municipal and rural fire chiefs, and relying on drought models from the National Weather Service, reviewed their initial burn ban to determine if the ban should be extended. That same review process will occur prior to Labor Day.
