UAH hosted a roundtable meeting with various organizations and individuals for a broad discussion about the food system, and the programs designed to address the challenges revolving around food access. We are so grateful for our community, and the opportunities we have to work with our partners.

The Utah State Board of Education announced that it will be participating in the USDA’s summer meal program again this year. Youth will be able to pick up free meals and snacks at schools, parks, libraries, and other neighborhood locations. Many children rely on school meals during the school year, so this program makes sure they still have access to nutritious foods during summer vacation.

Due to the increasing cost of living, school lunch debt is on the rise in Utah.

The best solution to school meal debt is preventing it from happening by ensuring access to meals for students are eligible for free or reduced price lunch. Contact your child's school before at start of the next school year to find out if your child qualifies. Applications are accepted throughout the school year.

Financial burdens are more common than we think. As the cost of groceries and utilities continue to rise, more and more Utahns continue to face financial challenges. A majority of people are living paycheck-to-paycheck and 1 in 4 have even more serious struggles. Federal programs like SNAP are crucial to helping families overcome these difficult times.

From Mother’s Day to Father’s Day, Utah is celebrating Family Strengthening Month, and Gov. Spencer J. Cox has declared June 8 - 14, 2026 as Family Connection Week.

Here’s a surprising way to help your youth feel happier and healthier: eat dinner together at least once a week. 🍽️

82% of youth who eat family dinners say they can talk with their parents about personal problems. They report feeling closer to their families.

Youth who eat family meals do better in school, make healthier choices, and are less likely to be depressed or to consider su***de.

SNAP, the nation’s most important anti-hunger program, helps struggling families put food on the table. 73% of SNAP households live in poverty. SNAP is used as a means for survival, very rarely is it ever misused or used for fraud.
