One of the most beautiful parts of the Kostopulos Dream Foundation/Camp Kostopulos is seeing former campers return years later and realizing that the impact of camp never truly leaves them.
This week, we had the privilege of welcoming back Jackson Lacy, a former Neurofibromatosis (NF) camper who attended Camp K for many years. Jackson traveled from Las Vegas to visit Camp K, reconnect, tour the many new facilities built since his last visit in 2016, and reflect on the role Camp K played in his life.
What he shared with us was incredibly moving.
“Being there gave me the opportunity to meet others with similar disabilities, which had a lasting impact on my confidence and sense of belonging. It was a place where I felt understood, supported, and encouraged to be myself.”
For decades, Camp K has proudly hosted specialty Neurofibromatosis camps, welcoming participants from across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and beyond. For many campers, Camp K was the very first place where they met another person living with NF—where they no longer felt different, isolated, or alone.
At Camp K, friendships were formed, confidence was built, and a community of belonging was created.
Jackson shared that some of his best memories and lifelong friendships came from Camp K and that those experiences helped shape who he is today. Hearing that meant more to us than words can express.
Even more inspiring, Jackson pledged to sponsor a child to attend camp later this year so another young person can experience the same connection, belonging, joy, and opportunity that Camp K gave him years ago. That full-circle moment is exactly what Camp K is all about.
Stories like Jackson’s are powerful reminders that Camp K is so much more than a camp.
It is a place where individuals discover confidence.
Where differences become strengths.
Where friendships become family.
Where people feel seen, understood, and valued.
And where memories and impact last a lifetime.
To all of our campers, families, volunteers, donors, and supporters who have helped make these experiences possible over the years—thank you. Your support continues changing lives across generations.
