Public health challenges don’t stop at reservation borders or county lines. Whether we are addressing the fentanyl crisis, improving maternal health, or expanding chronic disease prevention, protecting Utahns requires real-time data and collaboration across every corner of our state.

At our recent Utah Tribal Health Data Summit, state and tribal health leaders came together to advance a shared mission: breaking down silos so public health data leads directly to life-saving action.

Swipe through ➡️ to see how Utah DHHS and the Office of AI/AN Health & Family Services (IHFS) are partnering across the Indian Health System to build healthier communities.

Everything in its right place: Stewart is a social being who loves to interact with everyone he meets. He has been going to Smith’s since he was a kid and knows every nook and cranny of this megastore, making him the perfect person to meticulously organize the shelves so that customers can find what they need. With support from the Division of Services for People with Disabilities (DSPD) and Kristen, his job coach, Stewart has overcome incredible obstacles to thrive in his job at Smith’s and in his community.

In honor of National Disability Employment Awareness Month this October, we salute Stewart, Kristen, Smith’s, and all those across the state of Utah who empower people with disabilities to help them harness their talents to achieve their full potential.

Teenagers don’t usually admit when they’re struggling, feeling isolated, or longing for a deeper connection with you.

Instead, it may look like avoiding, doors slamming, sudden mood shifts, offhand comments, or spontaneously wanting to spend time with you.

If these phrases sound familiar, don't beat yourself up. Their cry for help didn't come packaged the way you were expecting.

The good news is, you don't need to have all the right answers to make a massive impact. Research shows that just one meaningful, validating conversation a day builds the resilience your teen needs to navigate tough feelings.

📌 Save this post for the days you need a gentle reminder, or share it with a parent who might need to see this today. Visit letschat.utah.gov for more info.

Welcome to the flock - Maclane’s love of nature and knowledge of animals made him the perfect job candidate to connect the community with exotic birds at Tracy Aviary. As a person with a developmental disability, he qualified for an assistive technology grant through the Division of Services for People with Disabilities (DSPD) that he used to obtain an e-bike – unlocking his ability to commute to his new job and spread his wings.

🚨 PUBLIC HEALTH WARNING: Utah health, poison control, and agriculture officials are issuing an urgent public health warning following four deaths across the state linked to high-potency, illegal chemical compounds found in certain herbal supplements, including kratom products and “cat’s claw.”

The Utah Poison Control Center (Utah Poison Control Center) strongly advises the public not to buy or use any products labeled as “cat’s claw,” products marked “adults only/21+,” or any non-prescription item marketed as legal while promising psychoactive “highs.” Although these substances are illegal to sell in Utah, consumers could find them in some retail stores.

⚠️ The Risk: Mislabeled products (such as “Buzzers”) contain Schedule I semi-synthetic opioids (MGPI and MGM-15)—compounds far more potent than morphine.

❌ What to Avoid: Do not buy or consume products marked “cat’s claw,” “adults only/21+,” or non-prescription items promising psychoactive “highs”.

🩺 Overdose Response: Naloxone (Narcan) is effective in reversing overdoses from these compounds.
