A recent national study found that only 17.4% of emergency departments meet the criteria for high pediatric readiness. However, researchers estimate that 2,143 children’s lives could be saved annually if EDs achieved a high level of readiness.

PPN hub site Principal Investigator at Oklahoma Children's Hospital OU Health, Amanda Bogie, MD, emphasized the urgency for hospitals to improve their pediatric readiness in a recent article by HealthLeaders examining the pediatric preparedness of emergency departments (EDs) in hospitals.
