The Community Clean Energy Program is launching in 2027, bringing Unincorporated Salt Lake County residents and the residents of 15 additional communities across the state the choice of net-100% renewable electricity!

🚰and cover your spigots to prevent freeze damage!

Today's planners are working against a real challenge: a 2021 Utah Foundation study found Utah was short about 44,500 homes compared to the number of new households. Thoughtful planning is how communities start closing that gap.

Please be advised: Controlled burns will take place in Upper Mill Creek Canyon from Sunday, October 18 through Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

This work is made possible by strong partnerships between Salt Lake County Canyons Management, the U.S. Forest Service, Utah Division of Forestry, Fire & State Lands, Unified Fire, and Salt Lake County Parks & Recreation.

Burns remove dry brush and debris under managed conditions, reducing fuel for larger, more dangerous wildfires. Burn dates depend on the weather and are subject to change. You may see smoke in the area.

🍁 First freeze is coming. Is your irrigation system ready?

Water left in pipes and sprinkler heads can freeze and crack, turning a $50 blowout into a $500 repair. Schedule a professional blowout or rent a compressor before mid-October. While you're at it, shut off the main irrigation valve, insulate any exposed backflow preventers, and set your controller to off.

Both Big Cottonwood and Mill Creek Canyon will have small, controlled prescribed burns this month, thanks to our amazing partners at the U.S. Forest Service, Utah Forestry, Fire & State Lands, and Unified Fire Authority. 💗
