This October, we were able to facilitate the release of 10,000 acre feet of water to Great Salt Lake. This would not have been possible without several partners, particularly in agriculture. We are excited to share that through cooperative efforts, water stored in Pineview Reservoir that would have been available for irrigators was instead leased directly to benefit Great Salt Lake! Over the next several weeks, nearly 10,000 acre feet of water will make its way to the lake. The health of the lake is bigger than all of us, and it will take continuous collaboration to restore it. Even though it may not always feel like it, every drop towards Great Salt Lake counts!

Happy New Water Year!
What is a water year? It is the 12-month hydrologic cycle between Oct. 1 and Sept. 30 where the state measures precipitation. Currently, our statewide reservoir storage is at 50%, and 100% of the state is in some form of drought. About 95% of the state’s water supply comes from snowpack, which is stored in our reservoirs.We are hoping this water year brings lots of snow! 🤞

Every drop counts!💧Our division put down roots with Slow the Flow and many others this weekend by converting the park strips at the Governor’s Mansion from thirsty turfgrass to lush, waterwise plants.

Even a simple action like adjusting park strips can greatly reduce water waste. Lawns are generally overwatered. And in narrow areas like park strips, water often ends up on the pavement anyway. Choosing waterwise plants instead keeps our homes cooler, resilient and beautiful. 😎
