Human Remains Found Near Moab, Utah
Salt Lake City (Dec. 24, 2015) – The Department of Natural Resources and the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation are grateful for the continued dedication and commitment of our law enforcement partners and volunteers in Grand County.
For the past five years, the Grand County Sherrif’s Office and many others from agencies throughout the state have continued to pursue leads and conduct searches in an effort to locate Lance Leeroy Arellano or his remains.
As reported by the sheriff’s office, Arellano is the suspect in the shooting of Brody Young, a state parks ranger at the time of the shooting and current assistant coordinator of Utah’s statewide boating program.
Young was shot nine times during a routine vehicle check at the Poison Spider Trailhead outside of Moab, Utah, on Nov. 19, 2010. While evidence found with the remains lead investigators to believe they are those of Arellano, we will anxiously continue to wait for confirmation from the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office for positive identification.
