Utah Department of Veterans and Military Affairs The Utah Department of Veterans and Military Affairs is dedicated to serving and recognizing Utah's veterans, service members, & their families.

The Utah Department of Veterans and Military Affairs (UDVMA) is the state agency that assists Veterans, service members and their families to access their benefits and strives to ensure that Utah remains a military and veteran friendly state. UDVMA also advises the Governor and state legislature on matters pertaining to military affairs throughout Utah and serves as a liaison to the leadership of Utah’s military installations, defense industry, and economic development organizations. The purpose of this page is to communicate between the Utah Department of Veterans & Military Affairs (UDVMA) and members of the public. To learn more about UDVMA and the services it provides, please visit veterans.utah.gov. For more than two and a half centuries, U.S. Navy Sailors have stood watch on seas around the world. On October 13, we celebrate the 251st birthday of the United States Navy and a legacy that began in 1775, when the Continental Congress established a naval force to defend a young nation.

Much has changed since those first ships took to sea. The mission has grown, technology has transformed, and generations of Sailors have carried that responsibility forward through war and peace.

Today, we recognize the men and women who serve aboard ships, submarines, aircraft, and installations around the world—and the families who support them from home.

To every Sailor, past and present, thank you for your service. Happy 251st Birthday, U.S. Navy!

Attention West Valley City Veterans!

West Valley City and the West Valley City Veterans Committee are doing a Moth Radio hour like story telling event on November 6, 2026 and we want to hear your stories!

Starting next Wednesday October 7 and happening every Wednesday through October 28, we will be holding a two hour work shop to help Veterans write their stories.

On November 6, the night of the event, there will be a final work shop and rehearsal.

The event will take place on November 6, 2026 at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center.

We would love to see as much support as possible and please come to the story telling event whether you are a Veteran or not. Please see the flyer for all of the relevant information.

It is FREE to participate in and FREE to attend.

Behind every fallen service member is a family whose sacrifice continues long after the uniforms are folded and the ceremonies end.
On Gold Star Mothers and Family Day, we pause to recognize the mothers, fathers, spouses, children, siblings, and loved ones who have lost a service member in defense of our nation. Their loved ones had names, families, plans, and stories worth remembering. For Gold Star families, keeping those memories alive is part of carrying their legacy forward.
Today is more than a day of recognition. It is a reminder to listen to their stories, speak the names of the fallen, and surround their families with the support of a grateful community.
To Utah’s Gold Star families: we remember your loved ones. We honor their service. And we stand with you.

On September 18, we celebrate the birthday of the United States Air Force and the Airmen who have defended our skies for 79 years.

Since becoming an independent military branch in 1947, the Air Force has continued to evolve—from the earliest days of military aviation to missions in air, space, and cyberspace today.
But behind every aircraft, mission, and new technology are people. Generations of Airmen have answered the call to serve, supported by families who share in the demands and sacrifices of military life.

Today, we recognize their service, remember those who came before, and celebrate 79 years of excellence.

We are reaching out to share information about the Frontline Equine Connection program offered to Veterans and Active duty service members only.

The Frontline Equine Connection was created to provide veterans, military members, and first responders the opportunity to step away from the demands of their roles and experience the powerful connection between humans and horses.

We are currently working to spread awareness about this program and reach the individuals in our community who could benefit from these unique experiences. We would appreciate your help sharing this opportunity.

There is no cost to individuals who participate- program costs are covered.

Twenty-five years have passed, but September 11, 2001, remains a day America will never forget.

Nearly 3,000 lives were lost that morning. In the hours and days that followed, we also witnessed extraordinary courage—first responders running toward danger, service members answering the call, and ordinary Americans reaching out to neighbors and strangers alike.
For many, 9/11 is a vivid memory. For a growing generation, it is history learned through the stories we choose to share.

That makes remembering even more important.

On this Patriot Day, we pause for those who never came home, the families who still carry their loss, and all who served in the years that followed.

Twenty-five years later, may we remember not only how our nation was changed, but how Americans came together.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

This Independence Day feels a little different.
As communities across the country gather for parades, backyard barbecues, fireworks, and time with family, we also mark a remarkable milestone – America's 250th birthday.

For 250 years, our nation has been shaped by ordinary people willing to do extraordinary things. Farmers, teachers, immigrants, entrepreneurs, service members, and neighbors who believed in the promise of something bigger than themselves. The American story hasn't always been perfect, but it has always been one of perseverance, renewal, and hope.

Saturday, we celebrate the freedoms we enjoy and remember those who fought to secure and defend them through every generation.

As the stars and stripes wave overhead, may we take a moment to reflect on where we've been, appreciate where we are, and consider the role each of us plays in the chapters still to come.
Happy Independence Day, America. Happy 250th Birthday.
