College Track Program
2026

The Division of Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired (DSBVI) college immersion track will be held from August 31, 2026, through May 12, 2027.

Combining blindness training and academic skills, we work on giving students as many opportunities as we can with blindness training, life skills, and building confidence. This program combines our 9-month training program with 16 weeks at Salt Lake Community College.

The purpose of this college immersion track is to:
1. Provide support (academic, and emotional) to students who have concerns about succeeding in college or specific classes.
2. Support students who need additional training to improve blindness skills but want to continue with their education.
3. Support transitioned aged students who have not had the opportunity to live on their own. They will receive support with independent living skills, study habits and tutoring.

Students who are accepted into this track are required to begin the full-time training at DSBVI in August and go through December 2026 and then they will take 6 credit hours at SLCC starting in January 2027 while still doing some classes at DSBVI. They will live at the student residents at DSBVI. There is no cost for rent or utilities.

The classes offered at DSBVI will enhance your skills as a blind or visually impaired person. The classes offered are Braille, computers, home management, cane travel, woodshop and fiber arts.

Acceptance process:
1. Contact your vocational rehabilitation counselor and communicate to them that you are interested in the program.
2. Contact Kayce at [email protected] or call 801-323-4348 to get an application for the training program.
3. Must be 18 years old by the start of the program.

There are limited spots for the program and will be based on a first come first serve basis.

We are excited about the program and look forward to hearing from you. Please contact our College Track Program coordinator, Jodi Wright, if you have any questions.
