Today, we added the final flourishes to our projects, bringing joy and completion to the playground, bathrooms, and a new turfed area designed to host a playground for numerous children, and were then touched by heartfelt closing remarks that reflected the community's profound appreciation and kindness towards us, followed by the privilege of gift-giving to the kids, witnessing their radiant smiles and hearing their sincere thanks, culminating in an unforgettable futbol game.

Today was another incredible day of work at the school in Tambo Grande! ❤️

We finished building and installing the swing sets, the soccer goals, and and almost completed the beautiful wooden playground that will bring joy to children for years to come. We completed work on a classroom for 3-4 year old children. We installed ceiling insulation to make it cooler and put in new windows to help create a better learning environment for the students.

One of the most rewarding parts of the day was distributing school kits to the children. Seeing their smiles, excitement, and gratitude reminded us why these projects matter so much. We also had the opportunity to provide feminine hygiene kits to women and young girls, helping support their health, confidence, and daily needs.

We're part of an extraordinary team comprised of young individuals and family members in Piura, Peru, who embarked on a mission to transform a beautiful school in Tambo Grande. As they worked together on various projects, they courageously stepped out of their comfort zones, discovering new talents and skills. With dedication and passion, they installed windows in classrooms, added ceiling insulation, dug trenches, and constructed vibrant playground equipment, all united by a singular vision: crafting an environment where children can thrive, learn, and grow.

The warmth and generosity they received from the students were truly inspiring, as the children welcomed them with beaming smiles, respect, gratitude, and pride in their school. Despite having so little, their radiant joy, dignity, and kindness left an indelible mark on our team, a testament to the power of selflessness and compassion.

Life as an ECH Intern in the Peruvian Amazon...

Two incredible interns, Hava and Richard, arrived in Nauta, Peru with a "can do" attitude—and they've certainly put it to work!

Hava is piloting a new Self-Reliance course for high school students, helping youth develop entrepreneurial skills and discover opportunities within their own communities. Recently, her students were challenged to invent products that could improve life in Nauta. Their ideas included sustainable plant-based dyes, customizable mattresses, an electric broom, and even a nutrient-packed popsicle designed to help combat childhood anemia while remaining affordable for local families. (And somewhere along the way, Hava also became the swim team coach! 🏊‍♀️)

Richard is teaching English and mathematics to students from elementary school through high school while navigating the joys and challenges of teaching in a second language and schedules not really being schedules!

And then there was today...

Arriving at school they discovered thousands of crickets had invaded the campus. Because the school is open-air, the crickets were quickly joined by giant beetles, spiders, and armies of ants.
Before classes could begin, students and teachers grabbed brooms and swept the unexpected visitors back outside.

Despite the distractions, learning continued.

Together, Hava and Richard are serving at ECH's school in Nauta, which provides educational opportunities to more than 600 students and helps make quality education accessible to families living on the north side of the river.

Thank you, Hava and Richard, for your willingness to serve, learn, and grow alongside the students and families of Nauta. 💙
