Today we remember and honor Trooper Randy K. Ingram, who made the ultimate sacrifice for our state on this day in 1994.
Trooper Ingram dedicated his life to public service, both in his community and for his country. He joined the Utah Highway Patrol in August 1984, serving at the Kanab Port of Entry and as a field Trooper in Fillmore before transferring to Juab County in 1988. A devoted member of the Juab County Search and Rescue team for 15 years, he also spent 20 years serving in the Utah National Guard, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.
On the night of October 5, 1994, Trooper Ingram stopped a van loaded with Boy Scouts for driving without visible taillights. Tragically, a semi-truck driver fell asleep at the wheel, drifted into the emergency lane, and struck his patrol car. Due to the proper and protective placement of his vehicle during the stop, Trooper Ingram successfully shielded the van, saving the lives of the scouts inside, but he was killed instantly in the collision. He was 39 years old and left behind his wife, Carlene, and their two young children, four-year-old Megan and two-year-old Devan.
Please join us in paying tribute to a true hero today. We invite you to learn more about Trooper Randy Ingram, his life, and his selfless service to the State of Utah by visiting his memorial page here:
