Welcome the Year of the Ram at Lehi High School's Chinese New Year Celebration, February 16! Admission is 1$ per person. The event is geared towards families, with lots of activities for children of all ages. There is enough to keep everyone entertained for the whole time! In past years, the only food that has been available has been snacks and samples we've provided. This year, local Chinese restaurants will be there to sell dinner for roughly $5-6 per adult portion. Cash only. T-shirts will also be on sale for $7. Because it is the Year of the Ram, we have some new themed booths, including a sheep and goat petting zoo. Also, a chance to see a life-size Terracotta Warrior statue from Xi'an, China.

The Confucius Institute in collaboration with the Utah State Office of Education, hosted an evening dinner and meeting of all 1st grade and Kindergarten teachers in the Utah Chinese Dual Immersion Program. We were also please to be joined by BYU Chinese Flagship, Portland Public Schools Chinese Immersion Program, and local education administrators.
The purpose of the event was to explain and get feedback on our current project to develop an Immersion specific Chinese literacy program with a Hong Kong based press called Mandarin Matrix. We also used the opportunity to recruit teachers to be a part of a content development team and plan to use our teachers to write immersion-oriented stories.
Overall, the meeting was very successful and we look forward to getting stories submitted from our great Utah teachers!
