π PFCCA Tip Tuesday π
Preventing Burnout Starts With You
As family child care providers, we spend our days caring for othersβbut it's just as important to care for ourselves. Burnout can impact our health, relationships, and the quality of care we provide.
Here are a few ways to protect yourself from burnout:
β¨ Schedule paid time off and actually use it
β¨ Set clear business hours and boundaries
β¨ Connect with other providers for support
β¨ Plan vacation days throughout the year, not just when you're exhausted
β¨ Remember that rest is a professional responsibility, not a luxury
π‘ Tip: Add your planned days off to your calendar at the beginning of the year so families can plan ahead and you have something to look forward to.
When providers are rested and supported, everyone benefitsβespecially the children in our care.
π Question of the Week:
How many days do you take off each year for vacation, personal time, or mental health days? Let us know in the comments! ππ

π Tip Tuesday: The Power of Play π
Did you know that June 11th is the International Day of Play?
This year's theme is "Protect Play, Protect Childhood."
Play is much more than funβit is how children learn, grow, and make sense of the world around them.
π Through play, children develop problem-solving skills.
π Play supports language and communication development.
π Children build social-emotional skills like cooperation, empathy, and self-regulation.
π Active play strengthens both gross and fine motor development.
π Play encourages creativity, curiosity, and confidence.
When we protect opportunities for children to play, we are protecting one of the most important parts of childhood.
This week, take time to celebrate play by following children's interests, getting outdoors, exploring something new, and remembering that meaningful learning often looks like fun.

ππ‘ Tip Tuesday: Accessible Books Matter!*π‘π
Books should be within reach, not just on a shelf. When children have daily access to books, they build early literacy skills, imagination, independence, and confidence as readers. π
We know little hands can be hard on books sometimes, but children learn how to properly handle and care for books through access, practice, and guidance. If books are always kept out of reach, they never get the opportunity to learn those important skills.
Here are a few ways to make books more accessible without breaking the budget:
π Ask schools or families to donate books their children have outgrown
ποΈ Shop secondhand at thrift stores, yard sales, or library sales
πͺ Invest in durable options like indestructible or board books for little hands
π Rotate books regularly to keep children interested and help books last longer
π§Ί Store books low and within reach so children can explore independently
Every child deserves the opportunity to fall in love with reading. π

π’ Reminder to share our *Check Before You Choose* initiative!
One of the best ways to help protect children and support families is by spreading this important information throughout our communities. Families often turn to local Facebook groups and community pages when searching for childcare, making those spaces a powerful place to share reminders about checking for licensing and background clearances before choosing care.
A simple share can help families:
π Learn what questions to ask
π Understand basic safety requirements
π Find legally operating childcare programs
π Make informed decisions for their children
Help us spread the message by sharing our posts in local parenting groups, neighborhood pages, and community forums where families frequently look for care. Together we can help families make safe, informed childcare choices.
π Monday we recognized A Day Without Child Care β a powerful reminder that child care is the workforce behind the workforce.
Across the state, providers, parents, advocates, and community members came together at events to raise awareness about the vital role child care plays in supporting families, businesses, and the economy. From sharing personal stories to connecting with local leaders, every conversation helped shine a light on the importance of accessible, sustainable child care.
When child care closes, families miss work, businesses struggle, and communities feel the impact. Monday was a powerful reminder that child care affects everyone.
Thank you to everyone who attended events, shared posts, changed profile pictures, and used their voices to advocate for the future of child care. Advocacy matters, and real change happens when our community comes together.
π Together we will continue advocating for family child care providers, children, and families across Utah.
Tip Tuesday π‘
Food costs add up quickly in child care. Minimize those costs as much as possible with these simple steps π
π Calculate the cost per serving when meal planning
π Buy in bulk when possible
π Utilize Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) reimbursement
π Plan menus around sales and seasonal produce
π Serve meals family style to help reduce waste
Small changes can make a big difference in your food budget while still serving healthy meals π
If you need help calculating meal costs or want meal planning and prep ideas, reach out β weβd be more than happy to help!

Today is Day Without Child Care β a national movement highlighting just how deeply child care impacts our communities, workforce, and economy. π
Child care is not just a convenience β it is essential infrastructure that keeps society functioning.
Without child care:
π Parents are unable to work
π Businesses face staffing shortages and lost productivity
π Hospitals, schools, stores, and offices struggle to stay staffed
π Children lose access to safe, nurturing early learning environments
π Communities and local economies feel the ripple effects immediately
Family child care providers make it possible for countless families to contribute to the workforce every single day. The work happening in child care programs supports every other industry around us.
Today we encourage families, providers, employers, and community members to share:
π How would your life, workplace, or community be impacted without child care?
π What would stop functioning if child care disappeared tomorrow?
The more we share our stories, the more people understand that supporting child care means supporting children, families, businesses, and the economy as a whole.
Thank you to every provider whose work keeps our communities moving forward every day.
