During Utah Family Connection Week, we celebrate the simple but powerful connections that help children thrive. A conversation at the dinner table, a trusted adult who listens, a family tradition, or time spent together makes a difference!

Connection creates safety
In this KUTV 2News Check Your Health segment, Deondra Brown reminds us that prevention is something every community member can be part of. It can begin with simple, everyday actions: knowing your neighbors, checking in on parents, listening to children, and becoming a trusted adult in a child’s life.
Here are three small ways to create connection with a child this week:
Ask one question and listen without rushing the answer.
Notice something specific they are doing well, and say it out loud.
Share an activity like reading a book, planting flowers, or taking a walk
Small moments of connection help children feel seen, safe, and supported. And when families feel connected to the people around them, prevention becomes something we build together.
